how often do movies get their ratings changed?
I just bought The Seven-Ups at the latest Wal-Mart sale, but before I got it I read a complaint on IMDB that the movie was edited from the original release. The complaint was that the original was rated R and the dvd was only PG. Immediately, I thought it was because of a ratings change much like how Midnight Cowboy was originally X but is now R. And I don't see anything that says the movies were cut. Is there a site with movies that had their ratings changed after the initial release?

I don't see Midnight Cowboy in that list...
...I'm looking for a list of movies that were originally released under one rating, but then societal changes caused the MPAA to alter the rating WITHOUT the studio making any cuts to the film.

When home video came along lots of movies were re-submitted and received lower ratings for home video release without any cuts. Likewise older films made prior to the ratings system were submitted so the home video release would have a rating. The Seven Ups and Midnight Cowboy aren't cut. Bonnie and Clyde was never rated when first released and then got an R when submitted for re-release a year or two later. I think it's PG now. Bullitt had an R rating at one time. It's interesting to look at posters from the 68-mid 70s era and see how many films were originaly R. Back then a "shit" would get you an R.

They were a lot more lenient with the G rating too though- 2001 is rated G even though people die in it, and the first Planet Of The Apes is a bit violent and shows some guys' naked butts in it. Let's not forget All The President's Men, which is rated PG and has "The F Word" at least 5 times in it, usually saying it more than twice will get you an R automatically.
I've only seen a handful of older movies get an MPAA rating for video without having been theatrically re-released since the rating system started; I remember seeing the cover for a VHS release of "The Birds" in 1985 and thought it was interesting they gave it a PG-13, which was still a new rating at the time.

Logan's Run is also PG, despite featuring a racy nude scene from Jenny Agutter.
