DVD Talk review of 'Curse of the Golden Flower'
I read Jamie S. Rich's DVD review of Curse of the Golden Flower at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=25748 and...
Just watched the movie tonight, here in Chicago.I have to agree that the movie was amazing. The story plot keeps your mind reeling, hanging on to what's going to happen on the next scene. I wonder if it's really a historic fact (r/t the Tang dynasty), since I heard that it was the last dynasty to rule China. The costumes were heavily detailed and as great as that in Memoirs of a Geisha. Overall it was a fantastic movie. There were some unanswered questions in the movie though, such as why was the first empress banished? Over all, I really loved Jay Chou, I think he played a wonderful role.

A huge
for this movie - a compelling plot combined with jaw-dropping visuals. It's definitely over the top - in the same way that you find in revenge tragedies (which is what this really is), Shakespeare, and grand opera.
The details of sets and costumes are simply amazing - I swear that there are colors used that I have never seen before. See this on a big screen if you can!

I'm still "digesting" the movie...I did enjoy it a lot, but the problem for me was the audience that was in the theatre with me. I think most were expecting a lot more action, and they were making their feelings known about it. Just pissed me off actually. Anyways, Gong Li was fantastic and the movie was beautiful. Story was a bit contrived at times, but very Shakespearean and a great Chinese melodrama. The small action that was there was amazing and I loved the "flying ninjas"
