Kevin Smith needs to stop going back to the Jay & Silent Bob well.

The Jay and Silent Bob well is deep, and full of future potential. Why should he stray from something that's been working sooo well for him (and for us)?

If you're still a fan, then that's fine. I'd rather see him try his hand at something else.

I saw some of it. I've said this a few times in other threads. I loved Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy. I've been disappointed in his work (more or less) since those. I expected him to go the way of Spike Jonze or, at least, move on from the Jersey type films. He's too talented to limit himself to the same gags over and over.....at least in my opinion.

I'm a huge fan of Kevin Smith, but he does need to move on. Jersey Girl was a valiant effort and shows there is more to the guy than dick jokes, but he needs to try something completely different. The fans constantly ego stroking him doesn't help. He seems to be lacking the self confidence to try anything different.

If that is the case he should come up with an alias to release it under.

I'd like him to remake Star Wars. He's a fan and could bring some of his own personality to the table.

I always thought he should make a movie in a Christmas setting. Heck, I consider Mallrats an Easter movie and watch it every Easter.

Kevin Smith, as writer/director of his movies, suffers the same as Edward Burns, another writer/director ("The Brother McMullen" and "She's The One"), who can only do "light farce," nothing ever really dramatic. Whimsical, if you will. Nobody gets hurt (except for old men down on the pier and dirty old men executives in Dogma).

If Kevin Smith (or Edward Burns, for that matter) would drop the whimsical and put heavy life situations into his next movie, it could be something.

This horror project - I hope its something based in fact instead of a douchy horror movie ala "Saw." Do a collage of serial murderers in America, base their crimes into live action, from the early 1900's to present day. Present it as a "serial-documentary."

Do we have any idea what Smith's film with entail?

Ironically they dealt with pot humor as well. Cheech Marin decided to grow up put it behind him and his career has flourished because of it. Tommy Chong? Well, he decided to stick with the pot and is essentially still playing the same character 30 years later.

So will Kevin Smith take the Cheech Marin route or the Tommy Chong route?
