For those who don't have any gamer friends
What do you think about doing single-player all time? If you don't, how do you look for other people do multiplayer with? Strangers from online communities? Online friends? I do know of the WiFi lists on this forum (which I'll get around to posting in), but they always seem to be better for low-interaction games like Mario Kart.
So I don't have any friends who play games at all. I don't even consider myself a real gamer (more like a lapsed gamer until around June when I got a DS Lite), so I guess I shouldn't be one to talk.
This kind of sucks when my favourite genre is RPGs. I suppose it doesn't matter for games like FFIII (okay, so I miss out on Mognet, but whatever). But then who do I play with when the good multiplayer RPGs come on out the Wii and DS? There is really only one person I could play RPGs with on my console, but on my handheld I pretty much have to do multiplayer over WiFi.
Sorry for the lame rant. If this has been discussed before at length in another thread and I missed it, please post it. I don't mind looking lamer if I learn something in the end.

I have a couple gaming friends, but still prefer single player games.
We get together for some multiplayer every once in a while, but I think we all pretty much prefer to play alone. Well, I take that back, one of my friends is pretty big into Live on the 360.
But my other friend and I are more into single player games/genres in general so it's not much of an issue.

yeah, I mainly play single player then time to time pop into games with the guys here. While they are "internet friends" it's a great group of guys to play with (and the odd girl or two).

I lost more and more of my gamer friends as I got out of school, now I basically have none. You bring up a interesting point and I also wonder what I am missing and if most of Wii library will not apply or be fun for me.

None of my friends are into gaming. I tried to get a couple friends here to get into it, but no dice. So I typically play an hour or two of single-player each night. I've not gotten into multiplayer online, at least not yet...
However, I love going back home (happens once a year) and playing for a week non-stop with my brothers. I'm excited for christmas vacation!

I used to be solely a single player because 'random net people' can be real asses. Thankfully this site in conjunction with Xbox Live (a really good service well worth the money) have reinvented the multiplayer experience for me.

Yeah, if you've been stuck playing single player you need to rectify the situation. Get a 360 with Halo 2, COD2 and Rainbow 6:Vegas and let the good times roll!

Sounds very nice, but it won't be an option until I have money flying out my pockets. :P Maybe when I get a real job after I graduate (which will be soon).

I'm in the same boat as I only have one friend that is any good at games and he lives about 100 miles away, only see him when he comes up to visit his folks once every month or two.
My wife is a casual gamer so I have someone to play Mario Kart, Wii Sports, etc with. She dabbles in action/RPGs so I might have luck with a Mana game or something. No one to play fighting games with though.
And my experience on xbox live found I have little tolerance for all the asshats on there for random games. It didn't fill the void at all. It's just better competition that the computer.
I like the way Nintendo is doing things with the Wii codes. I hate your average Halo 2 or whatever player.

I don't have many friends and none are gamers so I can't remember the last time I played in the same room with someone. Single player is the only way to go. But this is where XBOX LIVE has been such a great thing for me. Sure, I get my ass handed to mee by strangers and the occasional DVDTalker, but it's still my link to other gamers.

Whenever a new game comes out, I never pay attention to what multiplayer modes it might have.
None of my friends play video games - NONE. The age range of my friends is 25-40, and it's pretty recent that I realized this was weird, as a majority of people in this range play video games. It might be because they're mostly active, athletic types who look down on video games, but who knows... Well, one of my friends plays video games, but he doesn't like multiplayer games...
And you know what? I don't either. I'm not a bad video game player, per se (I can clear most games on normal difficulties without much problems), but I can't seem to play against other people to save my life.
Take Burnout Revenge. I cleared it, getting almost 100% without too much trouble, so it's not like I'm retarded at the game. I hop on Live for a friedly race, and I get my fucking ass handed to me as if I'm playing it for the first time. WTF?
It's the same with every game - I kick ass at HalfLife. Counterstrike with other people? Forget it! I tried Halo 2's MP (a game I've easily beaten twice), and I kept getting killed without even knowing how!
And these aren't isolated incidents. I don't really find video games too difficult when playing on my own, but whenever I go online, it seems like everyone I'm up against is some autistic video game genius. It's just not fun, and I doubt that I'll be renewing my Live account.

But so far neither of us can beat her bowling score of 199.

That's great but I still don't have friends or family that come to my house and even if I did, I don't have a wii.
