Now that I've stepped into the world of HD-DVD, I was wondering if there's a list as to which studios have announced support for which type.

For instance, I know I'm going to buy Talladega Nights on SD DVD since it's going to be a Blu-Ray only release.

However, should I buy Pirates of the Caribbean 2 on SD? Or is Disney going to release it on HD-DVD in the near future?

And I know Warner's behind HD-DVD, but what about Fox? etc.

LionsGate and Disney. I personally don't expect any change right now, but I'd pick LG being a dual supporter before Disney. Like most rumors of anything, I consider it bullshit. But there are "insiders" at AVS who swear these will happen.

Of course they have been swearing its going to happen for months, especially in the case of Lions Gate.

what about dreamworks and columbia/mgm?

Columbia is Sony. One and the same. Sony is the major developer behind Blu-ray. Columbia won't change sides until Blu-ray is completely "bullet between the eyes" dead and buried.

MGM's catalog is currently being distributed by Fox. Fox is a pretty die-hard Blu-ray supporter and unlikely to support HD DVD anytime soon.

The only studio that I keep hearing may support Hd-dvd is Disney

Dreamworks' titles are supposed to be distributed by Paramount, but I don't know what the situation is with them, because there has yet to be a single Dreamworks title released on either format.

Is The Weinstein Co. actually HD-DVD exclusive? I thought I read somewhere that they'd be supporting Blu-rry early next year.

It gets slightly complicated. Yes, at the present time, Weinstein Co is HD DVD exclusive.

However, their theatrical films are distributed on home video by Genius (a company that Weinstein owns 70% of). Genuis recently signed a 5-year deal with Disney to distribute some ESPN-based material. That will be coming out on Blu-ray in early 2007.

So, right now, Weinstein/Genius theatrical releases (Wolf Creek, Scary Movie 4, Clerks 2, etc.) is HD DVD. And Weinstein/Genius ESPN stuff is BD.

Great thread and I didn't even realize Warner Bros and Paramount were supporting both.

Thought we moved beyond this crap. Guess not.

Meet the Parents was a co-production between Dreamworks and Universal. Universal has the home video distribution rights.

So I guess we're talking about Dreamworks only productions? how many of those were there?

Seabiscuit was another co-production that's distributed by Universal.

I think we're talking about films that DREAMWORKS has the video distribution rights to (which will then be handled by Paramount)... so far none. Hopefully that will change sometime soon.

Paramount can't even get their own movies out. I'm not going to hold my breath for Dreamworks.

What is the holdup with Paramount? They seem to be releasing one new day-and-date title a month lately and that's it.

I believe The Digital Bits said Paramount will be much more aggressive in '07. They were slow with dvd as well.

I just want Paramount to give me that Team America disc they keep teasing in the stupid promo at the start of all their other discs, dammit!
