Stupid Dolby TrueHD Question on the Tosh A1
OK, I got it hooked up to my receiver via analog cables. Is that it? On the Tosh setup there were some Audio options regarding Digital Btistream/PCM out, etc... Do I need to do anything?
I'm going to watch V for Vendetta now, let's hope I had it set up correctly.

Cool. That's what I had. I'll have to A/B the explosion scene to hear any differences. MY weakest link at this point are the tiny Yamaha satellites I have.

I have tried out Troy, The Perfect Storm, and Batman Begins using DD+ and TrueHD and I can't tell a difference in sound. I'll try this weekend with Superman Returns. Many, many AVS users rave about TrueHD, but so far I can't distinguish between the two tracks.

Let us know how it works out.

Well, optical won't pass through Dolby TrueHD, only convert it to DTS-y quality.
So I was very hyped to be seeing V for Vendetta in TrueHD last night. This morning I did an A/B comparison and unplougged the optical. The sound went out.
My stupid receiver lets me pick a digital in for each source, but if it's analog I have to manually select it. So I just need to get in the habit of selecting it.
Mr. Cinema: If you have V for Vendetta, compare the minute or so at 2:02:40. My speakers are generally terrible, but TrueHD gave me a bit more oomph. The most obvious difference I saw is that when the glass shattered, it felt like it landed/exploded somewhere other than the rest of the explosions. In regular DD 5.1, all the sound was sort of mashed into one area, spatially.
I'm not an audio guy so my setup is terrible (although I don't use TV speakers). I imagine the better your setup, the more of a difference you could tell. It'll be nice to go back to all the TrueHD tracks once I get real (non-satellite) speakers.

Still, I'm in an apartment and can't really push it as much as I'd like.

I still mainly use an optical connection. A DD+ track converted to DTS at 1.5 mbps still sounds pretty damn good.

They've used CD audio (equivalent) for most of the lossless tracks so far, on both HDDVD and BD. That isn't really any better (audibly) than DD, although different. I've kinda stopped paying attention to every single disc, maybe they've improved the bitrate on recent TrueHD ones.
