Why would these be 60%-70% off in the next few months? This is the lowest price we've seen on these. I already have all but the Eisenstein set so I went ahead and ordered it.

$150 for that Homicide set is a great deal if you couldn't pick it up during the DDD sale

That's the cheapest I've seen for the Blue Planet set. I'll pick that one up for my son.

Too bad the 3 DVD set of The Complete Monterey Pop Festival CC isn't included. It's only discounted by 12%.

Ditto that for the Orphic Trilogy, that set can't seem to get a price break anywhere.

Picked up

Fassbinder's BRD Trilogy $39.97
Eisenstein - The Sound Years (Ivan the Terrible Parts 1 & 2, Alexander Nevsky) $39.97

even though my wallet is still smarting from the DDD and Google Checkout sales. Luckily my unexpected bonus at work is covering all this so I'm not spending any money "out of pocket".

The criterion sets are pretty cheap, but the prices are basically the same as they would have been under the dvdplanet sale that ended a few days ago.

Something else I noticed is that the even with the 50% discount, the two Herzog boxed sets are still cheaper at DDD.

Hey, that's a good rationalization for all of us compulsive DVD buyers on this board. This should become the forum slogan: "I got paid today, so technically I'm not coming "out of pocket" for anything".

Bottom line is, while of course a bonus is "bonus" and is fun to spend, once it's in your hands, it is money that can be put in a bank, invested, etc., so spending it is surely "out of pocket". Funny though.

I hear what you are saying but what I guess I really mean is that it is extra money outside of my normal budget which already includes savings and investments.

I can't find the topic, so it must have been deleted. However did anyone get the Buy 2, get $20 off to work? I have never seen it before, so how could it be expired?

I am sure the thread was deleted because this is not an active sale. I don't know where the OP found the link, but it was obviously not working. Interestingly enough, the price of the Dead Like Me seasons in my cart jumped from about $20 a season to about $35 a season overnight, and this particular sale still does not work. So I'd forget about it unless or until the sale is actually a real sale.

I was just busting your chops. I am sure we all go through some rationalization to justify (to ourselves, or more likely, to our significant others) the amount of money we all spend on DVD's. But spend your bonus on whatever the heck you want. I always spend part of my holiday bonuses on fun stuff, and try to save the rest. No worries.

It doesn't work. I think it was from a year ago, which is why you probably didn't see it.

Even if it did work, the deal would be lame now. Overnight, the 2 Dead Like Me sets jumped 25$.

Thanks Jeffrey & Starman for the response.

A year old huh? Would explain why I don't remember it. Still if its that old, one would think Amazon would have deleted that page or atleast make it forward to the main amazon page or something.

Second that. This is a great set...the season sets are encased in a sturdy, heavy "filing cabinet" (actually as sturdy as some actual heavy cardboard filing cabinet drawers we bought at a garage sale). It even has a metal handle on the front...very cool looking on the shelf. And the series is one of the best, if not THE best, detective/crime/cop shows ever on tv...very similar HBO's highly acclaimed THE WIRE (probably because David Simon created both shows).

BTW...someone posted about the Fanny & Alexander criterion...I believe I got it for about $1 less from DVDPlanet using $10 Google checkout, which I believe is still working at their site (just in case you miss the Amazon sale).

I paid upwards of $100 for the Cassavetes set so this price is pretty unreal I think. It is the best thing I have ever bought and would never regret its purchase. The whole world should own it at this price.
