I live in the smack middle of st. louis but i don't even know if there is a wifi server accessible from my apt (though i'm betting there is). Do you have to setup some account to access the wifi servers? Cost to access them?? I'm so lost

For the Wii, you just need a wireless (wifi) router, or a wired router to connect your computer and your wii. If your computer/modem and your wii are in the same room, I strongly recommend a wired router, as they are much cheaper and easier to deal with.
Besides letting the Wii and your PC use the same internet connection, your router can also give you added security against hackers as they act as a hardware firewall to keep baddies out. If you have a wired (non-wireless) router, that's even safer. Wireless routers can be safe too but you need to do some setting changes and finagling.

If component cables that maybe 10% of the gamers want is the biggest issue, then this was a damned successful launch. You might be disappointed, but Nintendo definitely did not "drop the ball."[/QUOTE]
Exactly. I really wanted component cables but stores in Canada dont have them yet. I'd prefer to have them, but nothing could bring me down this morning. The Wii is blowing my mind. Wii Sports is so much better than I thought and Zelda is unreal. I just saved my Zelda game because i have to run out and pick up a few more pre ordered games and when I did it said I had been playing 2 hours, it felt like 20 minutes. Nintendo has in no way dropped the ball. Look at how many systems they had available for us, what Sony did was pathetic. I'm not a sony basher at all, just pointing out the great job Nintendo has done so far.

Well, I got my Wii connected to the internet. I had to change my settings on my router from 'G-Only' to 'Mixed', but I'm not sure why. I thought this thing was 802.11g, maybe not. No big deal, as the change does not appear to have slowed my network down. Another thing, maybe it's just my hands, but does anyone notice that the pointer shakes quite a bit when you are using the Wiimote.

For anyone having trouble connecting to the internet or the VC channel, I wouldn't worry about the weird error messages its most likely just too much traffic at once. I got my system pretty early this morning and when I got home I had no trouble updating my system. Then a few hours later I tried the VC channel and couldn't get it to work. I just tried again after a few hours of Zelda and it works like a charm.

Got mine fully set up, updated and running. Tried the sensor bar at the bottom of the tv first, but that didn't work well as the coffee table was in the way a bit, moved it to the top and it works perfectly standing up or sitting on the couch.
I was a bit surprised at how small the remotes are, I thought they were a bit longer/wider from the picks, but they are very comfortable and feel nice in the hand. most importantly they are incredibly responsive, the rumble is nice and the speaker is a nice touch that adds a bit of extra immersion. I've not used the Nunchuk other than for boxing yet, so no impressions on it.
As such, I haven't fired up Zelda yet (will this evening after studying for a few hours) as I got sucked into Wiisports for a couple of hours.
It's a lot more fun, and a bit deeper, than I expected. Boxing pretty much sucks, but the rest of the games are a lot of fun. A decent bit to do single player wise with the training medals, getting up to pro rank, and the fitness age test. Haven't had a chance to play multiplayer yet.
The Miis are pretty cool, I got one looking roughly like me, but did much better with my girlfriend. I can't believe how much hers looks like her.
Not really anything I want on the virtual console now, other than maybe Sonic. A bit dissapointed that none of the other channels are up yet. But otherwise the interface is slick and easy to use.
All and all I'm 100% pleased thus far. Playing around with the channels, miis and wiisports has pretty much alleviated any lingering doubts I had about the controller. It' s going to be great seeing what developers come up with for it over the next several years.
Probably my only minor gripe is the complete lack of an s-video cable--even on nintendo's online store. I sent them an e-mail asking if they would be offering one in the future. For now I just split out the video directly the the TV and the audio to the receiver since the receiver will only do S-video switching.

I just picked up a Linksys Wireless G at Compusa for the Wii and partially as a switch for my 360 / PC.
Wouldn't you know Wiiconnect is screwed at the moment. I did get the update though.

I just got done with a couple hours with the wii and wii sports.
I gotta say: the controller feels weird at first, but in a good way. it's like "hmm... this is different."
then, a half hour into it, you're like "Why did we ever use regular gamepad controlloers again?"
creating the Mii was pretty neat. Update was slow. we'll chalk it up to first day traffic.
LOvE tennis. controls like a charm. i played it sitting down and standing up... and i was much better standing. using simple wrist motions, couldn't keep the ball in bounds. your mileage may vary.
Baseball was amusing. Not the kinda thing I could see myself playing a lot, bbut a fun diversion nonetheless.
Golf just felt weird to me... i played it through three times, and couldn't play it worth a damn. Might need practice.... but I grew impatient with it.
Bowling is f'n awesome, and that's all there is to it.
Boxing? not so much. I really felt like I was just flailing. I couldn't control the aim. it was like it was kinda mimicking my movements, when it felt like it... it was definitely the weakest of the bunch.
to sum up: tennis and bowling are good. baseball is okay. golf is a case of the jury still being out. And boxing is a waste of time, imo.
all in all, i'm very impressed with this little box, and am very excited for what the future might hold on it. Money was a little tight, so all i have is wii sports at this point, but I can't wait to get my hands on some more games for it.

I started a Wii Code Thread so we can exchange Wii codes and have each others Wiis walking around in the plaza.

Stopped by Circuit City around noon and they were out of extra controllers along with my earlier stop at Target (I arrived there before they opened, too). I did find the last 2000 point card that Circuit City had on sale for $14.99. Considering how many VC games I'll probably download the first few months, I would have picked up a couple more, but I should be happy finding the one card for now.

For trauma center when you are trying to choose the instruments is anyone else having problem getting the correct instruments. Sometimes it will skip the one I needed and sometimes it just wont pick it up. This game counts on time and hopefully this isnt just me as Zelda and Sports are fine. Anyone else have the same problem?

I'm LOVING my Wii. I got Zelda and it is just as good as I was hoping. I also had a friend over for some Wii Sports (one extra Wiimote was all I could find from 12 stores) and played for hours. I love it. I definitely need to get Monkey Ball when I get more money, but so far the system is really impressing me and is just a refreshing change of pace from everything else out there!

Well, I'm still waiting for my Wii (I hope), but thought some of you might like to know that Freeloader has been confirmed to work on the Wii, so you can play imports hack free if desired.

The cards aren't needed, as you can add points through the wiistore with Visa or Mastercard.
Of course the CC card is a deal as it's $5 off, but if you can't find a card you can always just add points through the system to pay for your games.
