My Dream Come True: Madonna in HD this week! ;)

So NBC just confirmed on their schedule page that Madonna's Confessions Tour (being aired Wednesday on NBC) will be broadcast in HD, albeit edited and censored.

Other locations will get it around the world not only in HD but also unedited and uncensored, without commercials.

Now what are the chances that this will be an HD DVD release when WB finally puts it out early 2007?

Anyone else watching?

I'll definitely be watching.

Glad she gave in and agreed to cut the "Live to Tell" number from the broadcast, because I thought that whole crucifixion/feed the hungry thing did SO not fit in with the rest of the show.

uhh...were you watching? It wasn't about "feeding the hungry." It was about children being orphaned by AIDS.

Guess I was a little more intoxicated than I thought. Still, it felt waaaay out of place in that show.

Now this is a title I'd gladly buy a combo disc for. For play in the theater and elsewhere in the household.

man those nbc commercials are driving me nuts. the clips are way too short and the filming style looks so great.

i'm having an hd madonna party that night (though i doubt most of the people coming even know or care what HD is, unfortunatly). they will now. i can't wait. not to mention a bunch of the people i went to the U.S. shows with were front row for all the filmed London shows, so hopefully they made the cut!

and, an hd-dvd of this tour (or re-invention, someday, PLEASE!) would be awesome. warner's dedication to HD-dvd is one of the main reasons i decided to get my a1 in the first place.

hopefully someone can capture the show on their dvr, burn it to a couple dvd-r's, and then we can watch the show over and over on our a1's in hd (hint hint)

I already have someone doing it.

I'll be making my own 16x9 DVD because I can, at the very least, record in 16x9. The bigger deal is getting someone from overseas to get the full show in HD. That's what I'm hoping for.

And to answer the question of why she was on the cross...
there was one recent interview (I think the Dateline one) where she went into detail as to why she did it. I'm not going to sit here and defend her but, to me, it makes sense and the religious right is nuts to criticize her when most haven't even seen it.

I will post this because I thought it was genius and written by Past Laurene Lafontain from the North Denver news.

Recently, I received a forwarded email, which had been circulated by the American Family Association with the subject line reading “NBC, Madonna Set To Mock The Crucifixion of Christ.” I generally delete forwarded email, but this one was sent from someone I knew and I was curious about what AFA was saying. The advice, within the email, was in big bold red letters encouraging the reader to “Please help us get this information into the hands of as many people as possible by forwarding it to your entire email list of family and friends.” The email claimed that Madonna was mocking the crucifixion of Jesus by performing while on a mirrored cross, and that Rosie O’Donnell, ABC and NBC were bashing Christians. The claims were so outrageous I decided to see for myself. It was easy enough to find a video clip of her performance and the lyrics online. After viewing the Madonna’s concert video clip on YouTube.com, I was livid. Her performance, which is drawing so much attention, is anything but a mockery of Christianity.

The reality is she is expressing the quintessence of Jesus’ teachings through her performance. She sings “Live to Tell” (below are the lyrics) from the cross, then at one point, the curtains close slightly, Madonna is lowered to the floor with the cross in the background. Behind her, the cross is flanked by video images of African children, a written message stating, “12 million children are orphaned by AIDS.” Followed by “For I was hungry, you gave me food” “I was naked, and you gave me clothing.” “Whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers,” “you did unto me.” “Matthew 25”

This powerful and very reverent performance calls the world to take notice that there are 12 million children who are currently orphaned due to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa. 12 million! Madonna is trying to wake us up to the fact that we are called to care for those who are most often forgotten, in this case, the growing number of children who are now alone because of their parents have died of AIDS. She is reminding each one of us, especially Christians, of the central message of Jesus. Jesus has called each of us to not only to identify with the suffering, but more importantly, to follow his example of providing active care, support and healing to those who suffer and then to do all that we can to end their suffering. Madonna’s very poignant and dramatic performance is a powerful call to action.

I invite you not to just take my word for it, go and view the scene online for yourself. Read the words of the song. Go to YouTube and watch the video. Copy the following link into your browser.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NiNNBveTDI

I can’t begin to express just how furious I get when a so-called Christian organization makes such outrageous accusations, in this case misrepresenting Madonna’s performance in such a perverse manner, in order to promote their agenda. American Family Association, Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, among others, have a very clear political agenda, which is predicated on rewriting the Gospel so as to fit it into their goals of a fundamentalist Christian theocracy. This is the very religiosity that Jesus was condemning for he was very clear about legalistic and rigid religious expression.

My hunch is this is the latest ploy to add to the AFA mailing list and money-raising machine for the extreme wrong wing of the Republican party. My hope is that Madonna’s Confessions Tour is educating millions of concert-goers to the AIDS crisis in Africa which will create an active humanitarian response, which would make Jesus proud! May we live to tell it!

Live To Tell
Written by Madonna and Pat Leonard

I have a tale to tell Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well I was not ready for the fall Too blind to see the writing on the wall

A man can tell a thousand lies I’ve learned my lesson well Hope I live to tell The secret I have learned, ‘till then It will burn inside of me

I know where beauty lives I’ve seen it once, I know the warm she gives The light that you could never see It shines inside, you can’t take that from me

A man can tell a thousand lies I’ve learned my lesson well Hope I live to tell The secret I have learned, ‘till then It will burn inside of me

The truth is never far behind You kept it hidden well If I live to tell The secret I knew then Will I ever have the chance again

If I ran away, I’d never have the strength To go very far How would they hear the beating of my heart Will it grow cold The secret that I hide, will I grow old How will they hear When will they learn How will they know

So Madonna is quoting the Bible in her shows?

What a religious whacko. I will never support her again.

Seriously sarcastic.

How does Madonna singing a song while strapped to a cross refer to kids being orphaned because of the AIDS?

Maybe as much as "Express Yourself" refers to the industrial revolution or "Cherish" has to do with shore erosion?

Excatly, threadfarting is not allowed here and several posts have already been deleted. If you don't like Madonna, or "can't stand" her as some have said, why are you bothering to even read let alone post in a thread about her?

I would but they have already been deleted and I don't remember the names.
One guy said, "I just lost what little respect I had for her... etc..."
another said, "I can't stand her..."

it's rumor time...

I Finally got some real answers regarding the dvd release of Madonna's Confessions Tour.
The date can not be revealed before the network premiere on November 22nd. Look for a press release right after that date with a speedy shipment to stores in time for Christmas. The release date could change up until the last moment - even if a press release will announce a due date take it with a grain of salt.

The cut on the dvd is not the same as NBC's upcoming special. We will get the FULL SHOW - CROSS INCLUDED. The dvd will be released by Warner and not universal/NBC.

An HD DVD and Blue Ray DVD is due out as well, at a later date.

Are we going to get some real special features? - i want you guys to remember the bonus feature listed for the IGTTYAS dvd were changed at the last minute so when i was told Madonna's videos for Hung Up,Sorry,Get Together and Jump will be included i doubted it.

Also looking to be featured on the dvd is the FULL COACHELLA gig (again take this with a huge grain of salt)

More:
Making of The Confessions Tour
Special KOKO report (whatever that means)
Making of Hung Up
Photos
Icon Offer

The feature will be presented in:
Dolby Digital 5.1EX and DTS
16:9

I can not stress this enough - Warner are well known for changing DVDs again and again even after a press release is submitted so PLEASE DON'T BELIEVE A THING UNTIL WE HAVE THE DVD IN OUR HANDS.
Look for a cover art within two weeks.

---------------------------
A very special thanks to Jason from Warner L.A. and Mark from Warner Home Video,NYC

Well don't point at me. I love Madonna.

I'm just pointing out how the videos to songs don't have much to do with the songs themselves. And that goes for tons of artists, not just Madonna.

So...in summary, I mentioned it because DFNYC defended Madonna being on a cross in this concert with, "It was about children being orphaned by AIDS," which I don't care how much you post to back it up it's is an odd explanation. It doesn't make any sense.

So...I came back with two other Madonna visual representations that don't make any sense.

Reminder: tonight at 8pm.

Unfortunately, it looks like we're going to get a huge storm in the Northeast.

They better not be cutting into it for weather warnings.

ooooh, that would suck, Craig! Big scrolling words across the bottom!
Looks and sounds GREAT in HD here but I wish we had more show between commercial breaks. You JUST get into it and then BAM! "Come to Wal-Mart..."

grrrrr....

a few thoughts:

1) my dvd recorders s-video input broke before the show (unbeknownst to me) so i got NONE of the video. looks like i'm buying a dvd recorder this week.

2) the show was a shitload better than i remember it. this being my 8th time seeing it, it was just a shitload of fun

3) TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO heavily edited.

4) the quick cuts did cause some heavy pixelization for me at times.

5) the colors were amazing. cannot WAIT to see this on HD DVD.

6) although it said Dolby Digital, there's no way in hell it was 5.1. Her voice wasn't coming from the center speaker at all and I don't think it was even "on." Same with the surrounds.

Anyone else watch?
