RAINBOW SIX VEGAS [XBOX 360]: Limited Edition

The stakes are high when the world's most elite counter-terrorism unit enters Las Vegas, where over 36.7 million men, women and children visit each year. "Sin City," the home of the famous Las Vegas Strip, flashy hotels, high-rolling casinos and world-famous celebrities, becomes the setting for a terrorist threat of global proportions. What happens when one of the world's most famous cities is held hostage by terrorists?

This Limited Edition release features bonus features such as a "Making of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas" featurette, a "Faking-of the Making-of" spoof featurette, and a host of bonus Rainbow Six features.

A Gold Day in Vegas

Rainbow Six is complete.

November 13, 2006 - This year's final major Xbox 360 game has gone gold. Ubisoft's now complete Rainbow Six: Vegas ships November 20. Traditionally, gamers must wait two or even three weeks between a game going gold and it shipping to stores. Ubisoft is managing to turn gold into retail units in record time.

The Rainbow fans at IGN (and they are many) are thankful for Ubisoft's expedience. On November 20, the pitter-patter of machineguns will echo through our office. Then we'll put away our guns and play some Rainbow Six

IGN Ratings for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas (X360)

9.0 Presentation
Tom Clancy should be proud. The addition of a story is welcome, and the focus on realism continues to make this franchise shine.

8.0 Graphics
The game looks very good, although the visuals overall are a bit washed out. Still, some of the best blood-spattering in the business.

9.5 Sound
An excellent soundtrack that will get you pumped to off terrorists. Wonderful sound effects and outstanding dialogue that pull you right in.

9.0 Gameplay
Despite a few minor AI issues, Vegas shines as bright as the city's skyline. The new cover mechanic should be considered in all first-person-shooters.

10 Lasting Appeal
Gigantic multiplayer maps, an excellent assortment of modes including four-player co-op. Currently the best multiplayer shooter on the 360.

9.3
Outstanding OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

I think one of the bonus features is a history of the series hosted by a couple of the FragDolls if I remember correctly.

Rainbow Six: Vegas Revisited

Ubisoft hits us with five new maps and two new gamemodes in the upcoming Player's Pack Red Edition. We have all the details.

February 12, 2007 - Imagine a regular day at the office. Suddenly, a Rainbow team anti-terrorist agent explodes through the window and into your cubicle. He hands you a gun, a rappelling belt and tells you to follow him or be killed.

Actually, we imagine this quite a bit at the IGN office, especially when expense reports are due. Go figure. This is also how the team at Ubisoft Montreal described the new Assassination mode, part of the upcoming downloadable Player's Pack Red Edition, available on Xbox Live at the end of March. While no price has been announced, look for this package to be a must-download for fans of one of the most popular online titles on Xbox 360.

Along with Assassination, the pack will include another mode called Total Conquest, as well as five new maps -- well, three new maps, actually. Both Killhouse and Bordertown are being revisited and relit, getting a complete face-lift from the team at Ubisoft. Here's what Ubisoft says about the three new maps:

Doscala Restaurant: This well-known Italian restaurant is located in the heart of Las Vegas, near the famous Fremont Street.

Marshalling Yard: This century-old service yard is situated in the center of an industrial district. Still active today, it is primarily used to store cars, but is also equipped with cleaning and maintenance facilities.

Roof: A coffee factory has been overrun in the continuing gang violence that is wreaking havoc in this Mexican border town. The strategic positioning of the factory makes it highly desirable to control, and therefore a focal point of the violence.

As for the game modes, here's how Ubisoft describes Assassination: "The goal of the attackers is to eliminate a high-value asset of the defenders, who in turn will try to defend and escort the VIP to his extraction zone."

Total Conquest, on the other hand, is more of a "Battlefield" type mode in which teams strive to control points on the map. "This is a team-oriented, static control-point game mode where each map contains three Mobile Radar Installations (control points). To win, a team must activate and maintain control of at least one of the three Mobile Radar Installations for a given period of time," said Ubisoft.

While we've seen these types of modes in other shooters, we've yet to see them at work in the heart of Sin City. We sat down with the team to see how it all comes together.

Ok, I just got the game yesterday and I love it...although, I have a few online issues.

Just my friend and I were playing some online Coop Terrorist Hunt.

My issues:
- I lagged, he was fine (I checked my speakeasy.net Internet speed and it was 17MB down, and 350kb UP)....I could still play decently, play it was annoying. It was like walk, pause for half second, walk, pause, walk, pause. Guys would also just hang in mid-air when I would kill them.
- My game would lock up often, causing me to completely shut down my console.
- When my friend would switch maps, it would just hang for me.

There were a few more issues....any idea how to resolve these? He was always the host too. Not sure why it lagged either. Possible bad disc? (I hope not as it was a trade). Single played was working ok though.

You need about 800 up to be lag free on RB6. Once you get more than 3 or 4 in a room on slow U/L speeds it starts lagging horrendously. If you're wireless I suggest hooking directly into your router(usually solves bad lag issues but you may still get some stuttering) One other note, usually the lag issues are caused by the host not the other players in the room so it may in fact be your freinds connection, not yours.

On another note the new map pack came out this morning for this game!! It's about frigging time....

Comcast only offers like 384kb UP (or 784kb for premium users). I'm also directly wired to my router (Linksys WRT54G v5). I guess I'll try hosting a game tonight and see if there is any difference.

I really like the game, but I wish it didn't have issues for me. Especially the locking up online when I try to join a invite.

You're better off not hosting and getting in a room that either has a good dedicated server or someone that seems to have a good connection. 95% of the time I can find a room with no lag whatsoever. Be warned though the other 5% is brutal on lag, so much that I usually drop out which I don't like to do to people.

Well, this was just my friend and I. We limited it to TWO people, as we only wanted to hunt terrorsits together. So, I would have to host or he would.
