He makes some really good points, both on the similarities and differences.

Seems to be applying selective criteria. Especially in the last section where the PS2 eBay price is compared against the PS3 retail price, which makes no sense at all. If anything, it undermines the point he's trying to make.

lol, I just came across that article not even 30 minutes ago looking for a particular review on 1up. Anyways was a pretty funny article actually and did have some good points. The 10 reasons why he thought the PS3 might fail this time around I thought were all very valid concerns. Again this will be a very interesting christmas and following year for the consoles. The drama is just ramped up even more than last generation. Gotta love that Gears of War ended up being an absolute must have game for the 360. They now have their killer app they were hoping for for this holiday season.

To me lots of the 'pluses' aren't 'pluses.' A race game, FF tech demo, fighting game. What's new about the pS3? I keep hearing hype about the Cell, but i don't know why that's necessarily a good thing.

In all honesty I think alot of those examples were used as a comedic effect. The overall tone of the article was pretty comedic actually. The only part that was really serious was the part discussing its failures. The otherpart listed rubber ducks and crazy commercials and such.

New Debacle for Sony
In the latest embarrassment to strike Sony Corp., the company acknowledged today (Wednesday) that many games designed for the original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 consoles are not compatible with PlayStation 3. News of the problem follows the rash of bad publicity over production delays involving the device, consumer hesitancy over the company's Blu-ray high-definition DVD devices, and especially a recall of laptop batteries that the company had manufactured.

Another tidbit about the PS3:
It has no internal scalers. If your TV doesn't have a 720p TV, and the game you buy is 720p, it will not upscale it to 1080i/p. You have to watch it in 480p.

Speaking of Playstation 3, I just got this email:

Costco site is probably going to crash on Friday.
Anyway I have a 30 inch CRT in my bedroom that will only do 1080i HD. My 50 inch CRT does 1080i/540p. Looks like I'm screwed with the Ps3 on everything but my projector.

This is truly a foolish oversight, but I think most HDTVs on the market will accept a 720p signal now.
This does make me question whether it will downscale 1080p Blu-rays to 720p, though. But again, most HDTVs accept both 720p and 1080i.

The 360 has internal scalers. You can set the system to whatever your max resolution is and it will display all games at that resolution. If you connect by VGA cable, it will also scale DVDs.
