Can I use an HD DVD player with a standard definition TV?

Guys,
I want to buy the Toshiba HD- DVD player A1, but I can't afford to buy a HD-TV now. So my question is will I still be able to watch HD DVD's on my rugular Philips 24'' TV whith a HD-DVD Player.

Also the Toshiba A1 will be abl to play dvd as well right?

Yes. But they won't be in HD.

Just to keep the forum as uncluttered as possible, I'm closing single question threads that are answered in the FAQ.

Q: Do I absolutely need an HDTV to operate one of these players?

A: Short and simple answer is NO. The max rez you'll get is 480i with a regular TV set but you would still get the advantage of whatever extras are exclusive to the new formats. You'll also be "future proofing" your collection.
