Buying 360 - local or online and where?

Hello

I may finally get around and buying one even though it's still a 50/50. I'm in need of a laptop more since the original XBox is still doing ok. I'm just weighing the options of either a real good laptop and no 360 or cheap laptop and get a 360.

Anyway with all the warranty hassel going on I wanted to get an idea of buying local vs. online. If I go local I'll get tagged with about $35 in taxes which I hate. Most of my favorite online places make us (Tenn) pay like New-egg and Buy.com along with Best Buy, Wallmart and Circuit City. Is there any decent online places to buy, offer and back up a warranty? I'm also looking at the bundles as well.

Overstock.com was the place to buy with their coupon and cheap shipping, and you can get the warranty through microsoft direct (info is in the box).

Personally, I waited until a local chain had a special (in my case, target), and went and applied for the store charge card, which saved me 10%. My deal was Xbox premium, extra wireless controller, battery + charge kit - total of $418 with tax, and an extra 5% savings from an email offer, plus I got $30 worth of gift cards...I'm just paying $100 a month for 4 months on the target card and I'm done...a few weeks back, circuit city was running a free wireless controller, and they do the 10% thing when you open a charge...

As much as I like the forum here for games, CheapAssGamer.com's deals forum is the shit when it comes to stuff like this. It's worth registering just to read the deals...

You just missed an amazon sale in October which came with a free game (Lego Star Wars, Dead Rising, Oblivion or Madden) so the overstock deal with the coupon is probably your best bet. Then get the Microsoft warranty.

I agree with Lordzeppelin check out cheapassgamer for all the details on the overstock deal or other deals. My guess is we will see even more deals this month and maybe a big one for Black Friday.

WalMart is giving out Burnout Revenge free with a 360 purchase. Not sure if it is an official bundle or not. check out their website. Not quite as good as Amazon's deal, but it is better than nothing and Burnout is a great game.

I'm still torn on the way to go here.

I ruled out the trade-in deal at EB because I should get more than $80 for my original xbox on ebay.

I was going to do Wal-Mart for the free Burnout, but I think I've decided on Costco.

Two main reasons: First is price protection. If a year or more from now Microsoft drops the price, I can return my system and get all my original $ back, right?

Second is warranty. No need for extended warranty w/ Costco, right?

Well you know what they say about us old folks.....I told ya'll just to keep your panties on and I'll get to it toward the end of the year. Now I've got to figure out how much I can get for the XBox and games (not all)? I'm not sure this or next week. I'm leaning towards Best Buy mainly for the fact I'm getting a DSLR and they offer 18 months. I can get the 360 and two games and do a extended warranty on both.. Now the question is ...what two games?

there's a copy of the BB launch day guide over at kotaku that for 3 days only (17th - 19th) buy an xbox 360(pro not core) w/ 2 games and get a 3rd game free. Value Package ID 37280.
Not sure how many games you plan to pick up but that might be worthwhile

Someone is giving away a free wireless controller this week...I think BB. And they offer 10% on your first purchase with their card...plus if you get a reward zone card, you'll get double points and get another like $15 back in gift certificates...

I couldn't find the wireless controller thing online in the ad, can anyone confirm this? I'm in the market for a 360 to go with the HDDVD addon, and I'd like to get a least something extra out of purchasing it for $400. A wireless controller would be perfect.

Overstock was a good deal 350 or so dollars, but I found out that I recieved USED 360.
Lamos!
Do the costco thing and have a lifetime warranty, well, the lifetime of the console, 3 or 4 years.

With Black Friday right around the corner you think it's better to hold off for a better bundle/game deal? I mean I've held off this long so what's another two weeks. Plus I'd like to see more on Gears if it lives up to the hype.

I bought it last night at Costco.

Their current bundle (only way to buy it at my store) was $500 for a premium system, extra wireless controller, battery pack, and that arcade collection. No savings at all off retail, but at least I have my warranty for free and price protection for the life of the console.

edit - Just to clarify (in case anyone else is thinking of going the Costco route), it was $474, the almost $500 was after taxes.

At $500, the bundle may have even been over retail prices, but at $474 I think it was an ok deal. I would have bought the controller and battery pack anyway, so I got the game for like $10.
