Do You Guys Lke The Old Or New HD-DVD Cases?
I was kind of up in arms about which one I liked better but after having both around for awhile now I definitly like the new version better. It seems like its higher quality and I like how you can read the spine better. I am not to thrilled with the little lock part that you have to pull down before opening it but its not so bad. Anyways I am definitly for the new package design, does anybody know if they are switching over to that style case for good or are they going to continue releasing some in the old and some in the new? Its at least a good thing that the 2 different designs blend well together.

Which titles have these? I haven't noticed any of the ones I have being different except that V for Vendetta has a more shiny-looking plastic on the inside. None of them have any locking parts.

I prefer the older ones, mainly because of the lack of that lock. I hate those locks. Aren't the cases hard enough to open already, with those stickers sealing them? Warner Brothers isn't bad, but Universal uses 3 stickers and the lock. Overkill, anyone?

Well originally it was the Combo discs that had the newer design. It has a flat spine unlike the rounded spine of the original package. Also the top and bottom of the case are not round anymore either. The newew cases also have a snap type latch that you have to unhook before opening the case. Again the reason I like the newer cases is because you can read the title on the spine much better and they feel a little heavier which adds a sense of quality to them that the original cases didnt have.
The reason I asked if they had switched to the newer design is because they have released alot of the new titles, even non combo in the new style case. Sme of the recent titles I have gotten that used the new style are all 3 Fast & Furious Films, Out of Sight and a few other new ones that I cant think of the names off the top of my head.

I prefer the cases without the feet. I like the MI3 case where the discs are facing each other. No feet on that one either. I guess Warners is the only one left using the old cases. I do like the hub used in the old cases. I think the disc feels sturdier. In the new cases, it feels like they could fall out easier.
One thing I do like about what Disney does with their BD cases is they print off the chapter list on the backside of the cover, so there's no need for an insert.

I prefer the older ones, mainly because of the lack of the snapper and the fact that I had about 20 of them before I got my first Universal HD-DVD in the new case.
But they blend together fine on my shelf, so it's not a big deal.

I like inserts. This is actually one area where I feel the new HD formats have really failed and that is in the the little details like chapter inserts. For the price we are paying for these discs they could at least design a nice insert for the movie. I dont know how other people feel about this but it is just nice to have something on that side of the case when you open it up and I was a fan of some of the artwork done on the SD inserts.
As for the cases, WB is definitly still using the old cases while it looks like everyone else is using the new ones now as I just picked up V for Vendetta and its in the old style case. I think they should standardize which case they plan on using and stick with it. I prefer the new one but actually like both of them, I just wish I could have all my discs be the same case. Doesn't really make sense why they dont standardize it.

Not a huge deal to me, I thought the orignal oes were cool, but I can live with either. If we are abondoning the old rounded with feet cases I prefer the more squared of cases without the lock (Mission Impossible) as compared to the Universal combo cases (Slither) that have that annoying lock.

There are actually four US cases for Hd-dvd. Don't have any titles from accross seas so can't speak on them.
1. Standard case with see through top.
2. Standard case with solid top.
3. Lock case with HD-dvd printed on the top. (Universal)
4. Lock case with HD-dvd/Combo printed on top. (Universal)
I actually find the Blu-Ray cases to be better than all of them. I'm talking about the one that is similiar to Universal's new cases.
1. (Opinion) Color is nicer and stands out more.
2. No lock on case.
3. Blu-Ray logo is a little emblem thingy instead of printed on.
4. More artwork is shown from inside the case.
Also, I forgot to add this:
The Universal cases in use now have two problems IMO.
1. A few times already I have opened titles that I thought were loose discs, but what was rattling was broken off parts of the red case. I have noticed lots of extra plastic inside these cases that tend to break easily! Problem for two sided discs.
2. Universal needs to stop packing that little "upgrade your player card" with the combo discs. It moves around freely and does scratch the discs. They should put it behind the booklet or make it a full page insert instead.

Have you guys had any problems with the glue remaining on the case after you remove the anti theft sticker on the top of the case? I opened V For Vendetta and it happened to me again. It leaves this film of glue on the case. Its like the 4th or 5th time I have had this happen. You can runb it off with a little effort bt it scuffs up the case. Just a small annoyance that I have noticed latly and again it has only happened with like 5 discs out of like 80 so its not a huge problem.
