Is Feast worth a blind buy?
Since the newer horror movies these days have been less that buy worthy I thought I would ask is this week's release of Feast is worth a blind buy? Or should I just rent for $1 first to find out?

I don't know about "Feast", but if you think the "newer horror movies these days have been less than buy worthy", I suggest you check out The Grudge, Hostel, Land Of The Dead, and the remakes of Dawn Of The Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Oh yes I am well aware of all the classics including the one's you listed. But the last few new ones I bought (Wolf Creek for one) were less than stellar and I prefer to purchase dvds I know I will rewatch. Tension was another new one I did not care for. To be safe I should rent before purchasing but with new releases the first week is when they are on sale so I am more likely to purchase than rent...

I thought Feast was definitely worth the $18 I spent on it yesterday. I watched it for the first time last night and completely enjoyed it. I didn't have high expectations for it, but it's fast, gory, and funny. I will rewatch it many times and I'm glad I own it. I too bought Wolf Creek on release week and have only watched it the one time so far. Here's a list of the horror movies I rewatch the most just so you know my tastes:
Shaun of the Dead
Dawn of the Dead original and remake
28 Days Later
American Psycho
May
Fright Night
An American Werewolf in London
and not horror, but I watch Oldboy a few times a year.
You can add Feast to that list because I'll be watching it a couple times a year.

If you enjoyed Cabin Fever and From Dusk Till Dawn, then you'll probably enjoy Feast. I personally love From Dusk Till Dawn and don't care much for Cabin Fever so I was kind of inbetween with this movie. It was ok but the dialog was pretty bad. I know it's not supposed to be Shakespeare but the dialog in From Dusk Till Dawn was brilliant while the story was completely outrageous and it worked.

Hi All, I picked up Feast on Friday night at the local Best Buy, I watched it last night and I thought it was GREAT! Well worth a blind buy especially if you enjoy monster movies, reminded me alot of the old monster movies! Great flick!

I happened to be at Wal*Mart for some trash bags and noticed they had Feast for $14xx. After reading the comments here and in another thread I picked it up, watched it and enjoyed it. I thought they did a great job considering the budget.

I would rent it for a buck unless you're getting holes burned in your pockets and just feel like buying something. Me? I will pick this up some day when I'm not on a serious budget. If you liked Dead Alive you will most likely enjoy this. I do think it's a good blind buy, but I'm personally buying less these days and just taking advantage of Netflix. Just so you know where I'm coming from.
I thought this movie was very good and had high re-watchability.

NO! Just saw it.
It's NOTHING like Evil Dead 2 or Dead Alive. Not as bloody or funny as either film. Yeah, it's more like Cabin Fever or Dusk To Dawn. Certainly not even close to being in the league of a classic like Evil Dead 2 or Dead Alive.
Had it's moments, but mostly seemed like it was trying too hard.
2 stars out of 5. Rental.
And they either had a bad digital camera or some really, really bad CGI, because during the fast moving action parts it looked very choppy. All the action scenes looked like they were missing every third frame of film and was so quickly edited and everything moved so fast, I couldn't even tell what happened to some of the characters!

Just watched this movie thru Netflix and loved it! Some very funny dialogue, fast paced and plays a lot with conventional horror film themes.
A couple of the lines that had me rolling:
I went in knowing nothing about the film or even that it was involved in Project Greenlight but walked away very pleased. It beats the fuck out of many of the recent horror films I have been watching the last few weeks. If you liked From Dusk Til Dawn, Shaun of the Dead and Cabin Fever...this movie is for you.

Add another thumbs up from me. Both me and my wife were pleasantly surprised when we rented this over the weekend. The dialog, pacing, and acting were all solid. To me a horror comedy is really difficult to pull off, and they pulled it off.

No one else noticed how choppy the picture was during the action scenes?
Is it an error on my DVD or player? Everything was so jerky and moving so fast, I couldn't even tell what was happening!

I've watched it twice on two different players since I purchased it and I didn't have any problem following what was going on in the action sequences either time.
Someone, I think Julie Walker, mentioned that they had a problem with the action sequences in the R Rated theatrical release, but it didn't seem to be a problem for them in the Unrated DVD release for some reason. It's in the Feast thread in the regular DVD Talk forum, I believe.

I used a free rental on this too.
I'd give it a 6/10. Nothing too great, nothing outright horrible.
Just another post 2000 horror movie with gore and throw in a few one liners now and then. Of course the fast cuts were annoying. You never got a good look at the monsters, just cut from slashing to fash to somethign else over and over again.
Blah.
NOT worth a blind buy but I suppose it would be ok for a rental.
