Where do you guys buy your HD-DVDs?
Back in the old DVD days (the glorious era of Reel.com) I purchased online 90% of the time. Then as Best Buy and Circuit City started offering cheap deals on release week, I slowly shifted back toward B&M stores.
I went to pick up The Break Up on HD-DVD today, and it was 37.99 at Best Buy. Nobody else in town keeps a decent number of HD-DVDs in stock. Also, the one copy they had sounded like the disc was loose inside. Between the high prices/low supply, it looks like online is the way to go. What sites are offering the best HD deals?

I hardly ever go to Target anymore, but there are a few nearby. How much do the HD-DVDs typically run there? I think their pricing is national, so it should be the same regardless of location.

I'm in Canada, and Amazon.com (not .ca) is usually the best deal. But if there's the odd title that I want immediately, I go to HMV (it helps that my significant other works there, so we get our HD DVDs at cost). I swear, though, once HMV catches on to the HD DVD game, their prices for real customers will be a lot better. Unfortunately, they're too focused on games and (very soon) books right now...

DVD Planet of late because I have credit from trading in SD-DVD's. While I do like DVD Planet, the downside is that the QC at the plants that press HD-DVD's is sorely lacking, and I have received several scratched HD-DVD's. While it's not DVD Planet's fault, it is easier to exchange in a B&M versus mailing a defective HD-DVD back for replacement.

Initially, I bought some at BB however, they are rather slow in getting current HD releases. They only just got Corpse Bride/Batman Begins this week. Target had them the day of release. So, I'm skipping BB altogether and going with Amazon. WIth their 10% off deal for the next year on all things HD, They are definately getting my business.

They were actually putting together the HD DVD display and I asked the clerk if these titles were available for purchase. He scanned the cards on the racks and went to the stock room and came back with Polar Express, Batman Begins & Corpse Bride! BB here in Okemos still doesn't have Polar Express and only a copy or two of Batman & Corpse Bride.

I've been using dvdempire.com for new dvd releases, since they've always proved to be reliable and fast (but not the cheapest). I avoided Amazon because they don't ship until the street date while Empire ship to arrive on the street date.
However, in the hi-def world, nothing seems to be organized as yet - I've encountered unexplained delays from both Empire and Amazon, and when that happens I've been cancelling my online order and checking the Best Buys.
I truly wish Amazon would get their act together.

The total savings over Best Buy including tax was: 67%. Quite a savings. You get an extra 10% off HD DVDs at Amazon for a year if you buy 3 HD DVDs on one order.
I have to thank Best Buy for not valuing my business. It saved me 67%!

Don't think the price of The Break-Up is typical of most HD-DVDs. It's a new release title, and a damn combo to boot. It retails for $39.99, and for some reason, the B&M stores haven't been discounting new release combos that much. (Catalog titles go for about $30 retail but can get discounted to $20.) Hopefully they'll give Superman Returns a good discount.
This month, the Google Checkout deal can be a good thing to use, but be sure to take shipping policies and rates into account, and compare prices between participating sites.
MJ Entertainment has had some titles for $15 or less, but they don't stay in stock that long and the whole thing may be temporary anyway.
Amazon is good, especially if you have the 10% off deal. I think they may be in the process of ceasing to offer it for new customers, so look into that very soon.
