Am I an EVIL HD-DVD player user???
I'm using a new Sony up-converting 5 disk changer that I just bought (last week) at BB, and I wanna use it until I get my new Toshiba A1 or A2.
(30 day return policy & all...)
Do you think that's evil?

Yes. You are using it without paying for it. If you want to keep it, keep it. If you want to return it, return it. But right now, you are using something you will not pay for.
That's not right.

I'm gonna have to agree. It's definitely not very ethical on your part. It's your decision to make, but I would suggest just using your standard DVD player until you upgrade to HD-DVD. Besides, that way, the jump to HD will be that much more apparent, and you'll be that much happier with HD-DVD...

Why would you buy a 5 disk upconverting player, while planning to buy an A1 or A2? If it was really cheap, just keep it as a backup or for multidisk use [I find this very handy], if it was expensive, why not just spend that money on the A1/A2? And if you've already ordered the A1 and are just waiting for it, then you need to be more patient.

I hear ya, I hear ya.
I haven't yet ordered the A1 (or the A2, for obvious reasons), but I just bought a HDTV, and actually (in all honesty), I was all excited and while not thinking very clearly, and not being hip to all the HD-DVD news, I quickly picked up and bought this Sony up-converter player after seeing 'HD' plastered all over the box thinking, "WT...? WOW! The price came down really quick!"
But Man, oh Man...
Believe it or not, I sincerely thought it would actually play HD disks, and even picked up a copy of VanHelsing HD to prove it!
...but Boy, Oh Boy, was I EVER surprised, and disappointed, and embarrassed, and as my belly filled with gas, I started HEE-HAWING out loud (in pain, red faced, near tears and all, right there in front of my brand-new 50" HDTV set), when the player just kept flashing 'Loading...Loading...Loading", trying its best to load the HD disk with no luck, and I thought to myself, "Man, do these new players take a LONG time to load, or what? Must be all that HD information, yeah, that's it!", but it just kept trying to load the disk, and after a few more moments, it just skipped to the next non-HD disk and started successfully playing it.
&
The Sony was like $127 (and change), so I'll just keep it.
(Lesson Learned.
)
(Let me tell ya, I could open a junk store with all the electronic equipment and cables and such I've bought over the last couple years...)
Thanks everybuddy, for the kick in the pants & or head, and keeping me STRAIGHT.

Hey, if it was an honest mistake, box it up, take it back and get and A1. There are still a few floating around at about $400 most places. No need keeping something you do not need.

I agree again. If it was a mistake, hey, that's what return policies are for. Besides, if it was 127, you could put that toward the HD, and it would 'seem' like it was only 260 or so. 4 out of the 5 best buys near me have it in stock [according to the website]. And if you were to say, Hi, I'd like to return this product and give you even more money, I don't think the store would mind.
I do like the 5-disk changer, though. Mine doesn't upconvert, but it's nice when I have one movie in for my boy, one for me, and a couple TV series I'm working on.

I too Love those 5 disk changers!
Now I know it sounds seriously stupid, but I sincerely thought it would play that HD VanHelsing disk.
They don't have it in stock out here in Los Angeles, but if they did, I would have picked it up in a hot second (because I really like having something I pay for 'in my hands' when I pay for it), even at that $499 price, but compared to Amazon's $399...and then there's the A2 that's supposed to come out this month...
Decisions, Decisions...
UPDATE: I just checked the BB's in my area and they say they have them!
$499 (in hand) or $399 (in time)...A1 (right now) or A2 (this month)...
???
-GREAT BALLS OF THEEK!

I'd say get the A1 and if you cannot stand the load times, exchange it for the A2 in a month. You'll get the machine you want and Best Buy will get an open box A1 that I promise someone will be thanking you for later.

Lots of open boxes at BB. That's how I got mine for $375 - talked down from $450. I saw there last week an open HD A1 for $499 + $50 gift card. I know they would deal on it if someone asked.

Paul, if you get the A1, just think of the load time as extra time it gives you to stock up on concessions: soda, homemade hot cocoa (maybe even Irish hot cocoa), and some snacks. By the time you've got yourself settled, the movie will be ready.

Thanks for all the suggestions & support everybuddy!
Hey Drexl!
Yeah, I saw that after "The Edit Window" (to which only the Mods, Administrators, Blade, Geoff, and those truly special and gifted others hold the key, BTW) had closed.
Besides, I'm an 'Edit King' Damnit, not a Edit God!!!
