Is it necessary to view HD DVD's with a special DVD player, or can it be viewed and enjoyed if you simply have a HD TV?

To play HD-DVD you need the HD-DVD player... Its a different format than standard DVDs....

HD DVDs are read with a different laser than normal DVDs, so it requires a separate player. Currently there is a player from Toshiba, and another from RCA. Next month Toshiba will release a second generation player, and Microsoft will release an add-on for the Xbox 360 that will also play HD DVDs. You might want to check out the FAQ sticky at the top of the forum.

HD-DVD players are backward compatible and will play DVDs. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray Disc are different and require different players. I second looking into the facts thread.
