Best HDMI switch / selector for the price?

I only have 1 HDMI input on my tv, but would like to use HDMI for both my cable box and hd-a1.

what's the best hdmi selector for the best price? i want something preferably less than $100 as i'd only be using it for these 2 devices (if we can go under $50, that would be even better).

thanks for any help!

I will most likely order one of these so I don't have to keep switching my DVI cable between my A1 and my Oppo.

I have the Sammy BD, the Toshiba HD-A1, and just ordered the 360 add-on. I have 1 HDMI. The Toshiba uses that. The Sammy, the 360, and my cable box all use component.

Does anyone own the HDMI switcher from monoprice, the one for $28? I need one because I want both the Sammy and Tosh to have HDMI and that will free up the remaining component connections for the rest of my equipment. Is there any loss of quality using this?

I own that (to switch between my Momitsu region-free and my A1). It works flawlessly and there's no loss of quality.

awesome. He'll get them back in on 11/20. I will place an order today. I'll end up needing a bigger one when I get the PS3, but that will be months away. I'll get plenty of use out of this unit, which is a good bargain.

I've gotten a bunch of cables from these guys over the years, including HDMI:

Looks like i'm going to have to pick up one of the 3/1 boxes soon. I'll be getting a new DVD recorder that will have HDMI. That'll make my cable box, toshiba AND the recorder.

Did anyone ever end up getting one?

Nice to have you back, I am glad you bumped this as I have had my PS3 for two days and I am already tired of hooking and unhooking my equipment.

Are there any combination HDMI & Optical Audio (TOSLINK) switch boxes?

I have to go Optical to my surround sound, and HDMI to my TV. Both of which only have 1 input of each type.

Yes, but it's expensive: http://www.engadget.com/2006/06/10/o...-with-toslink/

For that kind of money, you may be better off getting an HDMI switch and an optical switch separately, or getting a new receiver.

Same here. Are you allowed to return? or is that not possible?

From the website:

Returns
All returns must be authorized by monoprice.com within 21 days of the invoice date. Within twenty-one (21) days of purchase, we will replace or repair, at our sole discretion, any product that is deemed defective. After 21days, the manufacturer's warranty process must be followed.
Please Note: Due to restrictions placed upon us by the manufacturers, computers and parts are returnable in the first 21 days for repair only.
There's NO RESTOCKING FEE applied to any return item(s). However, S&H cost is not refundable.

I've returned a few things for replacement that were DOA, but never for refund. It reads fairly ambiguous as to returns on working items, and repair / replace defective ones. Sean is fairly responsive to e-mail, so shoot him one and let us know what he says.

I was just thinking about it tonight...

IF (and it's a big "if") I bought a BD player, I'd have 4 components with HDMI. They don't even make a switcher with 4 at this point. Just ridiculous.

They have one with 5.

I have this one and it's [Borat] Niiiiiice [/Borat]

Funny thing about it, though. The damn thing has to do the HDCP 'handshake' you know. Well I had my A1 plugged into port 2. I got HDMI errors all over the place and was ready to send it back then I read (I think here) that other people had the same problem but when they plug it into port 4 or 5 it works fine.

So I tried it and it works great. Don't know why. So I have my Oppo and Cable DVR in ports 2 and 3 and A1 in port 4.

I was wondering about switchboxes as well. I just bought a projector and was wondering if there are solutions like this for not having to switch your dvd-hdmi cable player between my tv and beamer. I want to hook up my dvd player onto two displays instead of having multiple components hooked up to one display. My dvd player can only upscale through HDMI. Otherwise a one HDMI and one component hook-up was logical. But that's not an option.

Thanks for any help you can give me. I hope it's not a stupid question :-)

Think I will get the 3 in 1 (although I should get the 5 in 1 since I will probably get a BD player this year). Man, this hobby has turned into full scale work .

Goddamn that's expensive. I'd probably have to get it as well. Monoprice never has sales, do they?

But then again, I wouldn't need it forever. Hopefully once I got a new receiver, it would be replaced. Plus it probably wouldn't support 1.3.

I don't know what the fuck to do.

Monoprice has never had a sale that I know of. About the best you can do is use a Paypal coupon when they offer them.

I bought the 2x1 switch because it's a quick fix until I buy an HDMI receiver. So I know your thought process. However, a 1.3 receiver will be way above a grand (Denon's is supposed to street at $2k), so $110 might be a cheaper way to go until the cost of the 1.3's come down.
