Why I am Not buying into HD........Yet
As a long time movie buff..used to study the On/Tv schedule (remember that?)schedule as a kid and watch movies till dawn on my little black and white set with more car commercials then actual movie.
The as a teen I got into vhs and thought it was cool buying $29.99 vhs movies from Colombia House at such "bargain" prices..then laser disc came out and I joined the small yet rabid group that thumbed their noses at the" pan and scan " herd with low def tape blinders on. I stood in line with pride out to the street with other laserphytes at The Annual Ken Cranes(now Dvd Planet) 25% off sale scooping $39.99 catalog titles and$100 Criterions at"bargain" prices. As I built my laser collection, I noticed at Ken Cranes one day on the wall a small shelf featuring a new format called Dvd. What was interesting, is the shelfs got larger as time went on and after educating myself, I made the plunge into dvd and liquidated my lasers... Ouch just as I had my vhs in the past! In time, Dvds overtook Lasers at Ken Cranes and soon they were a thing of the past. Dvd has certailny been more fun as it has gotten so cheap and there are way more titles to find and collect..oh-don't forget the joys of triple dipping. So this is where my thought process is: When is it time to go with the new and out with the old?...as laser and beta have shown not every format survives. I am sticking with Sd for these reasons.
1.I upconvert to 720p and picture is pretty dam good
2.There are two new formats and just like dvd the first editions out never seem to have the quality of future ones. I'm thinking that all the hd,blue rays disc will be all out again with better more special edition type productions just like sd and will avoid the double and triple dipping of the past that I have endured.
3. Ofcourse I also believe that two formats just can't survive and one or both will dissapear in favor of one unified type.
4. Star Wars ain't even out on it
.
5. I love special editions and Sd has them..Hd does not.
6. SD are so cheap now
7. HD Hardware and software prices will be much cheaper in couple of years making it easier to switch.
So.. I am going to wait and see what happens and enjoy my sd dvds in ignorant bliss and watch events unfold...what do you think?
