HDMI 1.3 only?

Alright THIS article is scaring me. I have a DVI input but im pretty sure its only 1.1 and not the newer 1.3.

Will this 1.3 requirement ruin HD watching till I get a new TV?

I'm not sure I understand the basis of your fear. HDMI 1.3 is fully backward compatible with HDMI 1.1 displays. The only big thing you really "lose" by not having a 1.3-compatible display is the deep color enhancement. But does that mean that you existing display is worse in any way than it was before the introduction of 1.3? Of course not.

HDMI 1.3 will decode the advanced audio formats. Since the Toshibas decode them already, I'm not sure I see the need to have a receiver with HDMI 1.3. They won't be cheap to begin with. I'm in the market for a new receiver and I'm just going to get one with HDMI 1.1 and use the HD DVD player to decode like I have been doing.

I'm still not following. If/when a BD or HD DVD player is released that features HDMI 1.3, it will still work correctly when connected to HDMI 1.1 TVs and receivers. Granted, the enhancements that HDMI 1.3 offers won't be available on those 1.1 devices (advanced audio support for receivers, deep color for TVs), but none of those enhancements are required for HD viewing. And, as Mr. Cinema noted, it is possible for a disc player to provide advanced audio decoding itself, making that portion of the HDMI 1.3 upgrade unnecessary in some cases.

Furthermore, "DeepColor" is not supported by either the HD DVD or Blu-ray specs. It's a theoretical benefit that HDMI 1.3 offers but no one will be able to take advantage of until the next video format.

I am completly 100% uninterested in HDMI 1.3 at this point. Maybe someday when its actually implemented in current hardware ill care more about it but as it stands, its just unimportant to any of the money making decisions that I make.

PS..

But...but...but...it's partially functional on the PS3!
