I dont know if this is the proper place for this but as it is referring to storage of HD-DVD's I am listing it in this forum. If it is in fact the wrong place I apologize and would a forum moderator please move it to the proper forum. With that being said I just have to post about the DVD rack I recieved today.

I was expecting it to be nice as its a Boltz piece and all of thier stuff is awsome. However this thing is absolutly the most stunning DVD case I have ever set my eyes on and it is perfect for HD-DVD's. They look fantastic inside it. Now this is not a super large case by any means and this only holds a small portion of my overall collection. We had a space in our living room that was empty so I decided to look for a DVD case to fit the spot and use it for my HD-DVD's.

I went to Boltz.com and noticed they had a new kind of furniture available called Raw Steel. The Raw Steel DVD cases come in two sizes, single and double. The double fit the space we were trying to fill absolutly perfectly so we decide to go with that one. I dont think I would get the single as it is pretty small. The double holds 180 Standard DVD's so I am guessing it will hold around 225 HD-DVD's when all is said and done, maybe more as you might be able to get 1 more shelf to use from the height difference. For now I use it for both SD DVD's and HD-DVD's and will just move the standard DVD's out as more HD-DVD's come in.

The Bottom 6 pictures show the condition of the metal and give you the basic characteristic of the metal but it is without the final finish coat on it. The final piece is much darker and resembles the very top picture.


I cant tell you guys just how amazing the quality is on this piece of furniture. First it weight must be at least 175-200 pounds. It was heavier than my Boltz TV Stand which is much bigger. I got mine without casters but I am thinking of getting a set just because you cant move the thing cause its so heavy. The finish on the metal is stunning. It has this antique aged look to it with imperfection all over the place. The doors have solid glass panes in them so when its closed no dust gets in and it has adjustable shelfs, 6 in total, so you can make it for CD's DVD, VHS or HD-DVD's.

The HD-DVD's look amazing in this case. The color of the HD-DVD cases match the color of the metal beautifully. Again this is not a big piece to hold a big collection. This only holds like 1/10 of my total collection but I have other storage racks for my SD DVD's. This baby is for HD-DVD's and the size of this really is just perfect.

So bottom line if your looking for a storage rack or case and your thinking about your HD-DVD's, If 225 is a good size for you and you have a spot where one of these racks would go. Get it!! It is hands down the most beautiful piece of metal furniture I have ever seen and it makes your HD-DVD collection just look that much better. As I dont own a digital camera I cant take a pic of mine at this moment. However I can borrow one in the next couple days and upload them on here later in the week.

Anyways good DVD racks are few and far betwwen and I always appreciated it when people pointed me to one I didnt know was out there so I am passing this info on to you guys. If you guys have any questions about it feel free to ask.

One last thing, it comes fully assembled so you dont have to do anything but pull that heavy sucker out of the box. There are no nuts and bolts and stuff as everything is welded together. They are individually hand made. It was a nice surprise not having to assemble something.

is another option. Like Boltz, it ain't cheap. But it's built to last and has a very clean, customizable look. Once I finalized my home theater setup, I dumped all of my cheap shelving and set up the room with the Can-Am stuff.

Boltz has been holding my DVD collection since 2000. Never any regrets.

Yeah I was looking into getting some of these awhile ago. I had so many standard edition DVD's that I could no longer fit them anywhere logically. Unfortunatly I had just dumped a ton of cash into photo equipment and couldnt afford the amount I needed. I opted instead to just throw away like 500 jewel cases and ended up sticking the DVD's in Books. Only did that with my standard edition cheapo dvd's tho and sometimes regret doing it now. I kept all the artwork and stuff so I could always buy the cases back but it wouldnt be cheap.

Nice if you can afford it, but I'm quite happy with my cheap $100 cabinets. Especially since only a small percentage of my collection could fit in that thing...

You will be lucky if your DVD player lasts 4 maybe 5 years and many people buy warrantys for an extra hundred bucks just to guarantee that they do ake it 4 or 5 years. This piece of furniture will last 50 years and Imean that literally.

This is definitly not cheap but there comes a time I think everyone gets sick of the cheapo DVD racks. I went the cheapo route for many years but then got a house and decided to invest in nice ones.The standard Boltz racks are much cheaper than this Raw Steel line and I have a few of those as well. One thing can be said about buying Boltz quality furniture and that is it will literally last forever. In 50 years when I am dead this piece of furniture will still be around. That is how hard core the quality is.

But obviously 700 is alot of money and this case is not for everyone. But the few people out there that are interested in these should definitl take a good look at it. You wont be sorry I guarantee it.

ummm, not quite sure what you are saying here. Arent the pictures telling you what this is or do you thik we are talking about 700 dollar snap cases? would only cost me about 2.5 million to outfit my entire collection with those 700 dollar snappers.

The casters are optional and I dont have them either but dont expect to move this thing even a 1/10 of an inch once you have DVD's in as the weight is well over 300 pounds now. This is more about quality than size. This is hands down the single best quality metal piece of furniture, not even speaking specifically for DVD cases, that I have ever seen. It is stunningly beautiful.

Boltz is not cheap furniture but the people on this site that have wisly invested in some pieces know exactly what I am talking about when I say it is not only worth it but that they will quite literally last forever. I am more than willing to spend more for an item that I know will be with me the rest of my life. I just got sick of the crappy press board versions and wanted something with some style. I am willing to spend thousands on a HDTV and even thousands more on an audio system and again even thousands more on the actual DVD's yet I am unwilling to buy nice cases to hold the stuff? Nope not anymore, a 700 dollar piece of furniture that will last the rest of my life seems like a pretty ok deal compared to 500-600 dollar electronic pieces that If I am lucky without a warranty will last 5 years.

It's very nice PS... but it isn't a case, it's a cabinet or storage unit.

Now that we have that cleared up, I wish I could afford to buy 5 of these for my collection, but I don't have a spare $3500! That's going toward a new TV

I hate to be so argumentative about a meaning of a word but as the dictionary clearly says under the word case as used as a noun which is the case here, the very first listing in americas heritage dictionary is

1. A container; a receptacle:

and also

11. a glass container used to store and display items in a shop or museum or home

Using these definitions my DVD storage device could clearly be labeled a DVD case.

End of story.
