Tax free weekend in MA August 12th and 13th

Most of us in New England probably already know. Just a heads up though. Most items up to $2500 are tax free (sales tax is 5% in MA) and this includes DVDs. So, you can take advantage of this week's sales at Target, Best Buy, Circuitcity etc. tomorrow and next week's on Sunday

We know.

Of course our neighbors in NH try to rub it in by taking a full page ad in the Globe about the fact they're "sales tax free" all the time. What they fail to mention is all their other taxes are a bitch.

I'd love that. I pay 9% tax on almost everything.

I agree. Beeeg freeekin whoop. I live in MA and this won't affect a dime of my spending.
It'll cost more in gas to drive to the b&m stores than I would spend on tax anyway.

I live in RI and am going to avoid this like the plague. The amount of traffic and congestion in the stores isn't worth it for 5%.

Yay...

now if they didn't take out nearly all the rest of my money in income tax and we'd be all set.

FYI: This also includes online orders, so for retailers like FYE and BestBuy that have web stores, you should be able to get a tax refund.

By "tax refund" I take it you mean file for it when you do your income taxes? At which point they will probably go, "ok, now make sure to send us the use taxes for all the other online purchases you made for out of state vendors." No thanks.

Don't be so dramatic people. There were hardly any massive lines, pushing or shoving at the stores today, and I saved $150 bucks on my new washer and dryer.

No. Take your receipts to the local B&M for a refund.

I love how RI says they can't do the Tax Free weekend, probably because they would not be able to pay their crooked politicians. Remember Buddy Cianci, one of RI's FINEST...Thank You, I prefer MA anyday...

What kills me is that if any store advertised "Save 5% this weekend only!", we would just say ho-hum and stay at home. It's only a big savings on big ticket items. But it does bring out the people in droves. I can't figure the public out.............
