[Dead] Possible free Moviebeam equipment

Moviebeam allows you to rent movies from home. Price is between 1.99 to 4.99 per movie. Website is http://www.moviebeam.com
Use coupon code F76LB and it should be free. Service areas are limited at this time though. The unit has a 160 gig hard drive in it.

Don't just get it for the hard drive. I've read it has encryption hardware built into it so the hard drive won't work with anything else.

There are utilities out there to unlock the hard drive. I'm hoping for the some mods to it so it can just became a hard drive based video player.

According to the customer agreement when you sign up they have the right to charge your credit card on file for the equipment if they have a reason also they make there money off subscriptions just like other subscription services- so if the box is not detected with a phone line or acceptable signal I think they will get kind of suspicious and they have the right to charge for a content refresh fee of $39 to resend the movies to your HDD.- The customer agreement also mentions about the tampering of the equipment among other stipulations.

The customer agree only states that they can charge you anytime for any movies you watch. They very cleary say it is not a subscription service.

I agree with you that it does not say "Subscription services"- It's more of an ala-carte type of subscription- but it does mention in the pricing section
"Additional fees and charges may also be charged as detailed below."

I'm guessing you could receive the box and just not activate it.

I guess it is possible but I would kind of think that Moviebeam will keep an eye as to why these units are not activated? They will know the serial units being sent out and wonder why there is no feedback due to no phone connection callback data
Just a hunch

Got an email from Moviebeam, saying that the code was only for sweepstakes winners, and I was not on the winners list. So, no Moviebeam for me.

Still, with their business model, and Disney's backing, this unit should be at fire sale prices within another year...

I got the same email. I would never buy their system, but had they actually sent me one for free, I most likely would have used it. Oh well.
