How much it costs to have a band play at your college: Get the lowdown

Found a cool listing of the prices for 'hot bands' to come play at your college.

Some notables:

Death Cab for Cutie --- $75k

Hoobastank --- $50k

Indigo Girls --- $35k-$50k

Fountains of Wayne --- $15k-$20k

When I was in school we got Pearl Jam to play, I think it cost us about 5 grand. It was right before they got big and played Lollapalooza. We had people coming from FL and SC to try to get in to see the show [in Athens GA].

I see Bill Cosby is doing gigs for 110k. I wonder if that includes insults for the graduating class?

Cool, Social D for $50,000. I wonder if I could get them to play in my apartment.

They're not listed, but Cheap Trick generally gets about 50K for a show.

Cripes, never thought one college show would cost so much. Even with smaller bands like Motion City Soundtrack and Thursday are 20k minimum. And that 75k fee for Death Cab for Cuties is just nuts.

What a rip.

$50,000 for him to yell out "beaners" and "dee dee dee" for an hour? Yikes!

LOL at Hootie's price. I guess I'm considered lucky considering they are performing a free live concert in my city in about a month.

I can't really speak to where I got some info, because it's mostly confidential stuff, but...

Robin Williams: About $250,000 plus hotel + amenities.
Ellen: About $100,000, depends on when during the year.

At least with Hootie you're getting a band with at least 5 or 6 people in it, instruments, sound equipment, etc. With Mencia, you're getting a guy and his suitcase. And he has the nerve to charge for expenses. Oh well, he better get it while he can, because in five years he'll be asking if you want to supersize your fries.

I think you are required to invite me over at least quarterly because I'm the one you quoted.

Don't worry -- I wouldn't steal your junk.

Hootie is playing here in concert in September and tickets are over $50 each. No thanks.
