Summer Hip Hop Songs

Would like to make a few mixed cds with some classic summer songs from the hip hop genre. Can't think of anything off the top of my head but am trying to grab songs from the 90s

Got some Naughty by Nature, Montell Jordan, and a few others

This might be a bit on the "pop" side but I've always liked Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.

Some people knock the Fresh Prince, but that song fantastic. Sums up what summer is perfectly.

Here are a few I can think of:

LL Cool J's - "Jigglin Baby", "Around the way girl", "Boomin System"
Nice n Smooth's - "Funky For You"
D-Nice - "Call Me D-Nice"
KMD - "Peachfuzz"
A Tribe Called Quest - "Check the Rhyme", "Whats the Scenario" with Leaders of the New school, "Find a Way"
De La Soul - "Ring Ring Ring"
2pacs - "Get Around"
Black Sheep - "Choice is Yours"
Gangstarr - "DWYCK" - a must
Grand Puba - "360"
Souls of Mischief - "93 til infinity"
Biggy - "Juicy" "Big Poppa" "Party and Bullshit" "Hypnotize"
Craig Mack - "Flavor in your ear" and the remix
Wu-Tang - "Ice Cream"
Smif n Wesson - "Bucktown"
Da Brat - "Give it 2 you"
Jay-Z and Foxy - "Ain't no"
Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz - "Deja Vu"
KRS-One - "Step into a world"
Big Pun - "Still Not a Player"

Those all may not have come out in the summer, but they sound like summer to me.

I guess this is a bit more R&B, but I'd have to suggest:

Mark Morrison - "Return of the Mack"

Off the top of my head:

Ma$e - "Lookin' at Me" or "Feel So Good"
The Roots f. Cody ChestnutT - "The Seed 2.0"
Arrested Development - "Tennesse"
Q-Tip - "Let's Ride"
Eric B. & Rakim - "Don't Sweat the Technique"
Nice & Smooth - "Rhyme Slow"
Haiku d'Etat - "Non Compos Mentis"
K-Os - "Clap Ur Handz" (works great as an intro)
Nas - "Halftime"
Jurassic 5 - "Jayou"
Paperboy - "Ditty"
Young MC - "Roll with the Punches"
Kanye West - "The New Workout Plan"
Outkast - "Wheelz of Steel"

Anything by Tribe Called Quest, DJ Quik, or any Dre-produced song.

Can't go wrong with those.

Saw DJ Quik on Saturday night at the Filmore. Excellent show. He went for 2 hours or show. At one point he was in the crowd, so I went to the bar and got another drink, then I look up and he was now on top of the bar. It was a great show, great venue and lovely smells of ganja everywhere.

Just keeping it in the '90's (and the summer) off the top of my head-

Dr. Dre - Let Me Ride
Ghetto Boys - My Mind's Playin' Tricks On Me
NWA - Straight Outta Compton, Always Into Somethin', Express Yourself, Approach To Danger
Biggie Smalls - Unbelievable, Juicy, Big Poppa
Black Moon - How Many EmCees..., Buck 'Em Down
Fat Joe - Flow Joe
Keith Murray - The Most Beautifulest Thing In This World
Mobb Deep - Shook Ones Pt. II, Temperature's Risin'
The Pharcyde - She Keeps On Passin' Me By
Jay Z - Aint No *****
Rampage - Flipmode Enemy #1
De La Soul - Breakadawn
Naughty By Nature - Ghetto Bastard, O.P.P., Ghetto Anthem
Eric B. & Rakim - Juice
MC Eight - Straight Up Menace
Raekwon (w/ Wu Tang) - Ice Cream
Akinyele - Put It In Ya Mouth

And you have to have Fresh Prince's Summertime. It's just a must.

Bone thugs n Harmony - 1st of tha Month

I think I was a senior in high school when BTNH really took off. MTV actually used to play this video alot when it first appeared. Tha Crossroads was clearly the biggest hit, but 1st of tha Month definitely has that lazy Summer feel to it.

On a slightly different note, a lot of Latin rap has a nice summer feel to it. Some of my favorites:

Lighter Shade of Brown "Hey DJ", "On a Sunday Afternoon", "TJ Nights", "Spill the Rhyme"
Mellow Man Ace "Mentirosa"
Latin Alliance "Low Rider (on the Boulevard)"
Delinquent Habits "Tres Deliquentes"

Dr. Dre and Snoop: Ain't Nothing But a G Thing always reminds me of summer. Brass Monkey by the Beastie Boys is another one, as is Going Back to Cali from LL Cool J.
