Best car insurance for male college student?
Hi all, was wondering which insurance company has the cheapest deal for young males. I've tried looking around, and they have all been around 250 per month, which makes me wanna cry. I have had a speeding violation a few months ago (95 in a 75!), but other than that everything is good.
Any suggestions?

Don't mean to sound harsh, but you might as well take the bus or ride a bike. I consider myself to be in the same bracket and there is no escaping the $$$. If you factor in maintenance, gas, and everything in between, you might as well just walk.
On the bright side, I heard if you're married and drive a sedan, you might get a break, but not by much.
Good luck!

There is no deal for your age/situation.
You will want to call as many companies as possible. Check with who your parents are with, and perhaps even see if possible to get on your parents policy.
When you compare different companies be sure and compare apples with apples. Many auto companies are changing the way they rate drivers, so expect some differences. However, if something seems to good to be true, probably is.

Parent's policy is best. You didn't say your age, but I am going to assume you are under 25. At 25 you get a price drop. I also got one at 27, but that might be a State Farm thing.
I pay $150 and that's with being on my parents, but I had a couple of accidents early on so I had been paying higher rates. My car is also consider a higher risk, sporty car catagory (not sure why a Saturn Ion are in this catagory, but they are).

You might mitigate the hit to your wallet by lowering your coverage a little and raising your deductibles, depending on the age/condition of your vehicle, but as has been said, it's not going to be cheap.

Yeah...there's only so much you can do before you hit 25.
One thing you CAN do is slow down. 95 MPH? Yikes!

Don't know what state you are in, however, you should find out if you can access your state driving record. Where I live, I can go on-line and for $6, see my official state driving record. Sometimes things don't make it onto your official state driving record...
So before you talk to any other insurance companies, try to get a look at your offical driving record.
Of course, getting on under your parents is probably the best idea.

In MI it depends on your credit score too.
If I was looking for cheap, I would look into geico or progressive. I use allied not, but shop around every couple of years. I know auto-owners is pretty tough on young drivers, so you probably want to just skip them.

When I was in college, I remember there were a couple things I did to reduce costs.
I only took the minumum policy required (comp & collision?).
I took a driver safety course (about $35 cost and 6 hours on a Saturday) and saved 10% off my car insurance for 3 years.
I had my permanent address at my home but listed my car as "garaged" at my college address since rates were cheaper where I went to school.
While in college, I was with Progressive and the brokers I spoke with said no other company could touch the rate they were giving me. I think it was partially based on my good credit history but I didn't ask since I was just glad to have a low rate. Never had a problem with them and paid for six months at a time to avoid the installment fees and keep the cost as low as possible.
My dad didn't want me on his policy to limit liability. If I ever got in an accident and hurt someone else, he didn't want the other party to attempt to get or liquidate the family's assets (house, etc.) in a settlement. But if you can get on the family policy that is good advice.
