Guster's new album "Ganging Up on the Sun". - June 20th
I know there are quite a few fans on the board, so this might warrant a thread.
The new album comes out on June 20th, 2006. They are to have a tour going on, playing lots of dates, I plan on seeing them in Birmingham or Atlanta.
You can visit their website www.guster.com and listen to two tracks off the new album, "Manifest Destiny" and "One Man Wrecking Machine".
I've listened to both, and I really liked "Manifest Destiny" and thought "One Man Wrecking Machine" was alright.
If you haven't heard of them, Guster's previous albums include (with great songs included)
Keep it Together - (Diane, Ramona, Homecomming King)
Lost and Gone Forever - (What You Wish For, Either Way, Two Points for Honesty)
Goldfly - (Great Escape, Demons, Airport Song, X-Ray Eyes)
Parachute - (early album, but you might like Mona Lisa, Window, Scars and Stiches)
Also, if you are one of the first 500 people to preorder the album off their website (10 bucks shipped) you will get an autographed copy, like they did with Keep it Together.

Their last album could not have gotten any better and the new one will likely not disappoint fans. I've been waiting and waiting for a new album.

Huge Guster fan here. But I have to admit, these first two singles off the album have me worried. Not really up to par, in my opinion.
Still, I'm hoping for the best, and my wife and I will be seeing them in Rochester again this summer.

You can sign up for the One Man Wrecking Machine fan club or something and get an exclusive free download for the new song "Empire State".
I can't get the download to work right on my computer.

There is a five song One Man Wrecking Machine EP available "only" at independent record stores, according to their e-newsletter. Shake-It Records here in Cincinnati had several available. I've listened to it a few times already, and nothing really grabs me. Here is the track list:
1. One Man Wrecking Machine
2. Days
3. Ruby Falls
4. Two At A Time (Demo Version)
5. Good Feeling (Live)
The intro on the "Two At A Time" demo is particularly obnoxious, but the rest of it is pretty faithful to the album version, one of the high points of Keep It Together.
Personally, I think Keep It Together was a sellout effort from them, and it clearly garnered them a much larger fanbase. It's not a terrible album, just my least favorite. I'm still curious about the new album, just not hopeful, especially if the EP is any indication of its overall quality.

Damn, this doesn't seem to be shaping up to be a stellar release. Yeah, Keep it Together was too studio and lost the best part of the band for the most part (the bongos). I still liked it and it grew on me more and more.
I can't wait to hear the whole album. I didn't like One Man Wrecking Machine, but I did like Manifest Destiny.

I'm not a bongo man. In fact, they detract like hell if used for more than a couple of tunes. I think "Keep It Together" is easily their best album and might be why I'm content with the new pup. I don't always agree that a larger fanbase means that a band has soldout.

KEEP IT TOGETHER was decent enough, but LOST AND GONE FOREVER is, to me, far and away their best album. Song for song, album for album, it's got the most number of standout tracks on it.
Still, looking forward to the new album anyway.

Not about Guster, but about a sound-alike. I'm listening to the new Stills album called "White Feathers" and at first I thought it actually WAS Guster. This band has totally changed their sound from Interpol-ish to sing-songy pop gems. Good stuff. Just a heads up for those who enjoy this type of music.

Ganging Up On The Sun Is Fantastic
The new Guster album is superb and I've been listening to it all day. I downloaded it this morning as I can't wait for my copy to come
. I am really enjoying Satellite and The Captain. They are amazing slices of music and the rest of the album has some great tracks too. The New Ground and The Begining Of The End are really catchy and Ruby Falls and Empire State are sweet tunes.
The Stills new album Without Feathers is also a cool album.

Well, I just got finished listening to the album all the way through, and upon first listen I have to say I strongly disagree with the above post. In my mind, this effort is very disappointing. If not for the song "Empire State", I'd say it was a complete waste of ten dollars.

I for one am loving this album. I was disappointed when I heard "One Man Wrecking Machine" a few weeks ago, but most of the album blows that song away, not to mention that that song works better when heard during the flow of the entire record.

I'm really liking it as well. I'm kind of surprised by the F-bomb in Manifest Destiny. Not that I'm horribly offended or anything, just not something I really expected from Guster. Haven't been able to listen to all of it all the way through, but I like what I hear so far.

As a huge Guster fan, not only do I not like the new album, but I borderline hate it.
The songwriting is just alright and it lacks the energy from all previous cds. A step down from Guster.
Empire State and Manifest Destiny are the only songs I even kind of like. Ganging up on the Sun sucks!
I am soooo sad right now.

Guster show at the ryman was this past weekend. Great show, and the new stuff sounds great live.
Aside from the Ray LaMontagne break down (he had a really good show, then stopped in a middle of a song becasuse some guy was laughing... then proceeded to say, "this guy is going home to drink, and wait until his children are old enough to rape". Then walked off stage. VERY bizarre), the whole night was good.
