Holy crap. I really don't like these types of music festivals as there are just too many acts. It always happened to me at Milwaukee Summer Fest where there were like 10 great acts on a given day that I wanted to see, but they were playing at the same damn time.

I've done the ACL Fest twice - 2003 and 2004. It's great. Very well run, easy to get around, set up so that bathrooms and eating aren't much of a hassle. I've done Phish fests, Bonnaroo, Coachella, Vegoose...and ACL is set up better than any of them. Plus, when the fest is over for the day, you've still got a full evening on 6th Street, where many of the bands do late night shows (hoping Ween does one this year) and you've got some great bars.

Overall, I can't recommend it highly enough. The one downside...2004 was fucking hot. In fact, I'd say it's the hottest I've ever been in my life, and I live in Vegas. But, if you stay hydrated, don't drink much alcohol til the sun goes down and bring lots of sunscreen, you'll be fine.

question - why isn't Massive Attack doing a more complete US city tour schedule - Coachella, this - you'd think they might make a few more stops here and there.

I went in 2004 and 2005 and yeah, both years were amazingly hot. Last year was the worst, as it was dry and windy and the entire place pretty much turned into a dustbowl by the end of each night. Whatever night Coldplay was playing, we left before they came on because our spit and snot was turning brown from the dirt in the air. That said, it's still a helluva good festival. I'm missing this year's due to standing in a friend's wedding that weekend. I don't feel too bad, as while this year's lineup is still good, it's not nearly as strong as the last two IMHO.

I went to the festival for the first three years, and loved every second of each one. For me, I remember the elements this way:

2002 = HOT,
2003 = Wet/Soggy, and
2004 = hot + CROWDED

For the 2005 show, they supposedly reduced the number of tickets so the crowds weren't near as bad. I'm skipping this year as well due to other committments, but that opened up the possability for me to hit Lolla in Chicago this year.

wet and soggy I don't mind - it's the heat I really can't standl - I don't think I could survive or enjoy Coachella.

the only festival I can remember suffering just because it was cold and muddy was T in the Park in Kinross Scotland - great festival, sucky weather conditions.
