Requiem for a horn section

It always amazes me when I hear someone say how much they hate hearing horns in rock/pop music. Personally, I love it. But it does seem that outside of some ska/punk fusions, horns have largely fallen off the face of the pop musical map.

Where have the great horn sections gone?

Growing up, you had the Memphis Horns, Tower of Power horns, Chicago, Blood, Sweat & Tears, EWF, Oingo Boingo, Steely Dan, etc.

Is it really time to write a requiem for horn sections?? Or are there still bands incorporating them into their sound?

And why do rock fans so easily accept everything from string quartets to floutists, but frown upon the brass??

Just sadly curious.
