While searching for my old copy of "Fear of Music" last night, I rediscovered a large cache of strange CDs I bought during my college years (aka my Blue period ). The most bizarre stuff I own is mostly early eighties industrial. It's probably some of the least accessible music ever made. Why in the world did I ever buy:

Laibach: Laibach. their debut, really strange orchestral/Teutonic/industrial stuff. I don't know why I kept buying Wax Trax! records back in the day

Missing Foundation: Go Into Exile: more bizarre industrial, just random bursts of static and noise and some guy screaming about the homeless.

Royal Trux: Twin Infinitives: not (really) industrial, but a very strange record, incredibly dense, uh... sound. Not really listenable at all.

Pigface: Gub: sort of an industrial/metal supergroup with guys from Ministry, Revolting Cocks and Trent Reznor on vocals. More accessible that some of the stuff above but barely.

...there's lots more where that came from. I apparently spent tons of cash on this crap.

Sorry, but that just strikes me as funny.

A friend of mine had this TV show back in college where she would show music videos. Mostly college radio-type songs and up-and-coming or never-will-up-and-come artists. No Doubt was one of them, and I distinctly remember telling her, "These guys suck. They'll never make it."

Anyway, Laibach's "Life is Life" was one of the videos. It was like a video representation of the Jagermeister label.

I found the soundtrack to Friends in the back of my closet. A shame I will carry for all eternity.

I've seen Pigface before. I left feeling dirty afterwards In the early 90's I used to scour pawn shops and some CD stores looking in the cutout-type bins. I'd always pick up some $2.00 discs if they looked interesting. Most of those are now boxed in my attic. But some of them ended up fetching big bucks on Ebay.

I love Laibach and Pigface. Have them mostly on Cassette though.

I used to own a Royal Trux CD and they are exactly as you described! Holy mother of shredded bleeding eardrums To each their own...

The funny thing is after their first few albums, they actually turned into a fairly good slacker/junky rock band. "Cats and Dogs" is a great album and pretty conventional.

Which Throbbing Gristle album? I'm more of a Psychic TV fan, but hey, it's nice to experience some of their earlier stuff.

All three RULE! (Just trying to find an original copy of 'CD1' where the gold ink doesn't have fingerprints all over it is almost impossible. Them covers were mighty fragile.)

So, I guess you're not in the market for TG's 25CD box set of live concerts, huh? Seriously; I bought it. After 25 hours of non-stop industrrial noise, an aspirin be required.

It's actually just called "CD #1", I think it was their first release on CD.

I found some old Gumball and Arcwelder albums at my parents house recently. Some other stuff, too, but I can't recall what...

You, uh, noticed that discs 7 and 8 have switched labels already, right? Wouldn't want you listeing to the set in the wrong order.

(Or did they correct that in later pressings?)

Yeah, I caught that.

I wasn't really sure whether it was the discs that were mispressed, or just an error in the book, so I just went by the disc #'s printed on the backside of the inner ring. They're the "Collection Era" discs, so the material is pretty scattered chronologically to begin with.

The only Psychic TV album I got was a single track, and was pretty much just GPO blabbering on for an hour. Not really enjoyable.

Pigface was a blast to see live. I had a great time.
