Lost Season 1 vs Lost Season 2
Some people in the Lost threads are complaining about the show getting worse but I don't see it at all. The first season seemed fairly uneventful while this season has been more fast paced IMHO. I'm also bitter people voted against me for drafting Lost Season 2 in the TV draft. We're about at the midpoint of Season 2 so use whatever criteria you feel appropriate, as in whether or not to penalize Season 2 for only being 11 eps so far or to use an average episode to judge.

Season 1 was better so far as it was more intriguing. Especially the back stories. The problem this season is the second and third backstory epidsodes for the main characters just aren't as good as the first ones were. Eko's is really the only backstory this year that I've enjoyed as much as the others.
As far as the Island plot, I'd say both seasons are about equal. But they do need to pick up the pace some as we've learned nothing new aside from seeing the monster since the tailies got to camp.
But I'm still loving it and it's still my favorite show on TV. Invasion is closing the gap fast though with how good the last 3 episodes have been and the pace increase.

i agree with you completely Josh. the island parts of the show are still great. The flashbacks (aside from Eko's) have been kind of weak compared to the first flashbacks for those characters. But i still love the show.

I thought the first 5 episodes of this season were better than almost every episode from last season, but after that, the show took a steep drop in quality. It's been getting better again and even with that steep drop, I'd still put this season well above season 1. I love this show, but season 1 really disappointed me because I didn't feel that any of the episodes came close to the quality of Pilot or Walkabout. 3 of the first 4 episodes were absolutely amazing and the rest of the season was just good; it was a bit of a letdown. I have faith that the rest of season 2 will at least come close to the quality of the first 5 episodes of this season.
I also agree with Josh that the backstories have been worse this year, but I think the island stuff this season has been blowing away last season's.

The truth is the slide began last season 2/3's of the way though. Once they started with the 2nd and 3rd backstory episodes for certain characters and doing little to advance the present day plot on the island, it became obvious the writers were making it up as they went.
This year is even more frustrating since the backstories are even worse(Eko's is the only real highlight thus far) and the island plot has advanced very little since the season premiere. If last year was annoying because it seemed like the writers had no clue where they were going with this, this year seems like a blatant attempt to drag this series out as long as possible in order to milk it for every last penny.

I pick season 1. I stopped watching after a couple of episodes into season 2. I've lost patience with the show and its slow reveals. They also killed off two characters I liked. I am bailing before this turns into another X-Files mess.

Since i'm a non-conformist - Season Two.
The bitching is slightly annoying. However, it's still one of my favorite "Must-See" shows.

Season Two has been pretty SLOOOOOOOW. I swear every time I watch an episode, it's something like Adrift, Everybody Hates Hugo, or the 23rd Psalm where little happens. Then when something happens like Abandoned or The Hunting Party, I miss it. Screw that, I don't wanna watch a show if you have to guess which episodes are gonna be eventful. I mean, come on, can't these people go 1 episode where nobody keeps secrets and everyone that is useful is used.
I mean, take last night, for example. I didn't watch it but spoilers helped catch me up. You have Jack, Sawyer and Locke going to help out Michael. Understandable. Doctor, Tracker, Gunner. But then Kate volunteers and instead of saying Yes because she has experience with weapons, they tell her to stay and of course she won't listen so she gets caught and screws everything up.
Plus Michael chooses to wait an entire episode before going after Walt again instead of telling everyone about what happened. Please, for the love of God, let the second half of the season be great because so far it's been a chore to watch an episode. It's like all you can do in an episode is see if the numbers show up, if the dharma logo shows up and if there are any hints to solve the mystery. That's not fun...I don't wanna stop watching but it's getting harder to keep watching....

They are probably equally good. To me the first season just seems better because it was surrounded with mystery, where as this season has uncovered some of those secrets. I suppose down the road more mysteries will spring up, thus making the season more interesting.

well the island plots are more interesting, but the backstories are less interesting. 50-50 split for me... I think, I haven't put much thought into it.

Yeah, Season 1 still miles better, though season 2 looks to finish strong after last week.
This season just had too much filler in the middle. The answered a lot in the first 2 or 3 episodes, then it went no where for a long time. Just filler on the island and boring flashbacks for the most part.
Still a great show, but definitely a step down from last year.

IMO they are equal. s2 took longer to set things up but the payoff was better. Stilll, s1 was incredibly solid, imo. I'd put only a very slight advantage to s2. The finale may well tip the scales though.

Waited for the finale of S2 before I voted. Voted that they're equal, but that may be because I'm riding a high from the last 3 or 4 eps. I know, in my cold, black heart, that S1 overall > S2. But, right now, they're equal.

I just finished rewatching both seasons on DVD with friends who hadn't seen either (it was my 3rd time through season 1 and 2nd through Season 2).
I still have to give the nod to season one beacause the backstories were more interesting and there was more suspense and intrigue with them just getting on the island and dealing with the monster etc.
But I did like Season 2 much more the second time through, and watching it on DVD confirmed my suspicion that the horrible scheduling was what killed it. Watching on DVD it's not bad when they break from the main plots for a couple of episodes. But during airing it was a killer since it might be two months before they get back to main threads with all the scheduling breaks they had.
Definitely looking forward to season three with it's two uninterrupted block approach.
