Multiple Accounts Question

I have two accounts open at my address...and recently helped my daughter who lives with her mother at a different address open an account at CH.

My question is, if I put my credit card on her account, meaning the billing address on her account would be the same as my two accounts...will this cause problems with CH's multiple accounts policy??

PS...my daughter and I thank everyone who contributes to the CH threads, these are awesome!!

While we're on the subject...

In response to a recent enrollment attempt, I got a letter today from CH saying that only two accounts are allowed per address. I currently have one regular DVD Club account and one CH.com account. I thought everyone was allowed two accounts per club. Has this recently changed?

The current DVD Club account did indeed come from an old application. I've put in many others, but nothing ever happened with those.

So no one else is having problems opening more than one account per club?

I've never gone over the 2 accounts per club per address, but I've had a total of 5 (2 DVD, 2 TV and 1 ch.com) several times before (including just 2 weeks ago) without any problems.

In the past, using the same credit card at two or more addresses has eventually led to problems. Columbia House can, and sometimes does, search out accounts by credit card number. To be safe I would advise using a different credit card on the account at your daughter's address. While it would be best if the billing address also matched her mailing address, that should not be a problem.

But, as always with CH, YMMV.

Thanks Lizard, I did use a different card then I used on my account, so hopefully I won't run into any problems. This card is actually issued in her name, but the bill gets sent to my address(otherwise I would never see it)...so hopefully that will work, I will let everyone know if I run into any problems!

Thanks again

Yep, I've had 2 DVD and 2 CH.com accounts open at the same time on numerous occasions. That's why this letter's got me so confused.

They are under new managment now. And it seems they are more on the ball, at least from my perspective. I am starting to see the BMG touch in their marketing, wouldnt be surprised if they inched the shipping rates up on us shortly and/or did away with the cap of $15

Out of curiosity, has anyone else read the "Membership Agreement" lately that comes with the initial enrollment box? The reason I ask is that I happened to catch wording in that phamplet that contradicts the previous rule-of-thumb of 2 per club per address.

On the center page, under "Membership Cancellations", the 2nd paragraph starts out "We must limit memberships to one per person per club." It goes on to say "We may terminate your membership without notice, for conduct we believe violate this Agreement or our policies, is harmful to other Members or our business interests, or for an inactive account."

That sounds like a change in policy from what we've been accustomed to???

Ah, good catch! I hadn't noticed that. Well, that explains the letter I got. It appears that cycling through accounts and building up DVD collections is going to be a much slower process from now on. Of course, the money won't be flowing out of my bank account as quickly, either, so maybe it's not such a bad thing.

My wife would agree with that. So far I've had no trouble opening several accounts in the last few months. We'll see if that changes shortly.

Interesting. I may have to give that a test. I currently have an account that has been opened for a year and a half and am hoping to open a second when some new titles become available for enrollment (e.g. Batman Begins).

A one account limit wouldn't be a big deal for me since I cycle accounts very slowly nowadays. It also makes some sense from a Columbia House/BMG business perspective. It it was one per year, THAT would be a problem!

I know this means little to nothing but I called and spoke with a CSR regarding these multiple accounts many of us have been signed up for. I asked him if this was an issue having so many open at once and he said no as long as I fulfil everything it won't negativly affect my club status. I have 4 regualr accounts right now and 1 TV account. As I said doesn't mean much but we'll see.

Same thing that I was told by a CSR. I had to call to ask about something and she said that I had many accounts. I asked her if that would get me in trouble and she said no. They want the money like we want the dvds.
