Only four #1 hits on the AC chart in 2005
Before everyone goes off on Adult Contemporary music, I will say that I am a fan and I do listen to it, but not all the time. As we were driving about town yesterday, I heard a commercial for Casey Kasem's AC year-end countdown show, and he said that there were only four #1 songs in all of 2005 on the R&R AC Chart. They were:
Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson
Heaven - Los Lonely Boys
Home - Michael Buble
Lonely No More - Rob Thomas
Pretty good songs listed there, but that's gotta be boring having the same song be #1 for that long. When I was a kid, it changed every week.
But according to the finaly tally, the R&R AC 2005 Year-End Chart stacked the Top 10 as:
1 Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway (RCA/RMG)
2 Los Lonely Boys - Heaven (Or Music/Epic)
3 Michael Buble - Home (143/Reprise)
4 John Mayer - Daughters (Aware/Columbia)
5 Tim McGraw - Live Like You Were Dying (Curb)
6 Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved (Octone/J/RMG)
7 Rob Thomas - Lonely No More (Atlantic)
8 Keith Urban - You'll Think Of Me (Capitol)
9 Martina McBride - In My Daughter's Eyes (RCA)
10 Goo Goo Dolls - Give A Little Bit (Warner Bros.)
Just an FYI thread for us old farts who listen to "softer" music.

There's no way there was only four #1 AC songs on the AC chart all year. (I guess that is what you are insinuating) That would mean each would have to stay #1 for three months each which is impossible, even for AC.

Nope, you're reading it right.
On the AC Charts in 2005 there were only four songs that hit #1, and as far as I can find Heaven (14 weeks total, starting in 2004) started out the year, then Breakaway (21 weeks) and Lonely No More (17 weeks) jockeyed for the top spot and new comer Home (2 weeks) rounded out the year.
Of the Top 10 above, here's their top position according to the BillBoard AC Chart:
PEAK - ARTIST - SONG - LABEL
1 Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway (RCA/RMG)
1 Los Lonely Boys - Heaven (Or Music/Epic)
1 Rob Thomas - Lonely No More (Atlantic)
1 Michael Buble - Home (143/Reprise)
2 Keith Urban - You'll Think Of Me (Capitol)
3 Martina McBride - In My Daughter's Eyes (RCA)
4 John Mayer - Daughters (Aware/Columbia)
4 Tim McGraw - Live Like You Were Dying (Curb)
4 Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved (Octone/J/RMG)
5 Goo Goo Dolls - Give A Little Bit (Warner Bros.)

Oh, and I'm not counting the single "Up on the Rooftop" by Kimberly Locke (
) that finished off the year.
... and here's the link to the Billboard End of 2005 AC Chart news.

Wow, that's pretty freaking sad.
Where are artists like David Gates, England Dan & John Ford Coley, Dan Fogelberg, Barry Manilow, Little River Band, Air Supply, Chicago etc. (or really the artists to replace them)?
I guess it is a dead genre of music these days.
