Jackie Gleason's Ralph Kramden - never smoked on the "classic 39"

Which I find really peculiar, since Gleason was a chronic chain-smoker - in real life, and on his other shows. But never on the "classic 39" episodes of The Honeymooners.

Why?

Because Ralph Kramden was not a smoker?

I did see a few special episodes where Ralph Kramden valiantly fought his addiction to crack.

I remember the episode where Ralph and Ed were handcuffed to each other while travling via train and Ed asked Ralph to get him some cigarettes out of his jacket. I don't think they even showed Ed smoking one though.

They didn't really show them drinking either I don't think.

Since a lot of those old shows had characters smoking due to cigarette companies as sponsors, maybe The Honeymooners didn't have any.
