I am trying to find out what is the best 1980's compilation discs? I own the Time-Life series of Modern Rock, and frankly am not impressed with the sound of the CD's or the music choice. They also make a Sounds of the Eighties series that I do not know much about. Can you recommend a label to try?

You need to narrow down the era and the genre better. There is a huge difference between material from 1980-82 and 1988-89. Also you want Puck, New Wave, No Wave, Hair metal, thrash metal, glam, death metal, pop, top 40, rap, R&B, Grunge, neo-punk, alternative, college radio, etc. You narrow down what you want and when you want and that would help.

I see the Xmas CD and what looks to be all love songs (#34), but I'm wondering was there an organizing theme to the CDs?

There were a few "love songs" cd's and an xmas cd but there wasn't any "theme" to them.

The whole project was born out of 80's clubs that I go to here in NYC and the music that they play to dance to. Then that expanded into the rest of the songs that I loved as a kid that you couldn't necessarily dance to but were good songs. And then I would usually end every cd with a slow song.

It took years to get all the songs by buying CD's and NOT using mp3's but it was well worth it. I gave copies to my sister for christmas last year.
Every now and then, I'll hear a song that I didn't put on there and think about making another CD or two.

Holy crap, Digi, nice assortment(s) you got there. There's really not many songs in there I dislike. I'm actually considering making a mix CD of 80s soundtrack tunes, not the big obvious hits but the songs I associate totally with their respective movies but not so much from MTV or the radio. Stuff like Divinyl's "Ring Me Up" from Sixteen Candles, Giorgio Moroder's "Together in Electric Dreams", etc.

I love my "Living In Oblivion" set of on-hit-wonders (there are 5 in the collection).

I've also got this and like it. I picked it up for $15 from BMG back in the day, so I figure that was a pretty good deal.

This is an excellent compilation album. I was surprised by how many songs on here I had heard many years ago on college radio, but then forgot about.

DigitalFreak., That is one AWESOME collection! I am going to try and use your list as a guide to collect more songs for my collection and IPOD. There needs to be a disc 36 though, and the first song on it needs to be Old Time Rock N Roll by Bob Seger (Risky Business)! Not available on any compilation CD to my knowledge, just Bob Seger's greatest hits or the Risky Business soundtrack. My apologies if I missed it while skimming your lists. Also give Alice Cooper's Poison a listen, another great hair metal song from the 80's.
