Any buckethead fans here?

Ah, yes, the guy with a chicken bucket on his head, who left Guns and Roses because Axel Rose was "too weird". Good to see he's still doing his thing.

I've only heard his stuff in Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains and have one of their shows on dvd. Man, the dude can play.
Sure he's a bit eccentric but there's no denying he has skillz.

Darn you for sticking that song into my head! Is this your revenge from one of the dvdtalk drafts?

Buckethead has some really interseting guitar music, but a lot of times it's clouded behind weird sound effects and what not that bog it down a bit. If he were slightly more focused and a little less weird (and I'm not talking the bucket) then his music would be better. He's certainly got the chops.

Yup. Great, great guitarist. For those who are muscially adventurous check out his PRAXIS stuff with Bill Laswell(escpecially 'Sacrifist' and 'Transmutation').
'Colma' is an excellent cd and probably his most accesible.
The first 'Giant Robot' cd is pretty varied with some real heavy grooves.
I saw him live years ago with SF's legendary DELI CREEPS. Just incredible.
If you only know him as the weird replacement guitarist in Guns n Roses.....
well then you don't really don't know Buckethead.
Most of his stuff is pretty challenging and not for the faint of heart.

Ozzy agrees:
"I tried out that Buckethead guy. I met with him and asked him to work with me but only if he got rid of the fucking bucket. So I came back a bit later and he's wearing this green fucking Martian's-hat thing. I said, 'Look, just be yourself!' He told me his name was Brian, so I said that's what I'd call him. He says, 'No one calls me Brian except my mother.' So I said, 'Pretend I'm your mum then!' I haven't even got out of the room and I'm already playing fucking mind games with the guy. What happens if one day he's gone and there's a note saying, 'I've been beamed up?' Don't get me wrong, he's a great player. He plays like a motherfucker!" - Ozzy Osbourne

There's no denying that he's talented, but he needs to drop the gimmick. I don't understand how a guy can wake up one morning and think that dressing like a retarded version of Michael Myers would help excel his career.

One of the crazy things about music today- so many bands, especially metal and rap, have to have "gimmicks" to cover up that they have absolutely nothing that separates them from thousands of others- Buckethead DOES have the chops to separate himself, yet so many people just see the bucket and dismiss him as a gimmick guy... irony...

I haven't heard his stuff in ages. I have the 'Bucketheadland' CD and I have the Praxis stuff and the Death Cube K CD (was he involved with the 'Chaos Face' CD?) and his contributions to the 'Company 91' discs, but that's all from the early 90s.
Did he get weirder or go more commercial? Is he even on Zorn's rolodex anymore?

His one album that came out in October, I think, was much more commercial with songs featuring the SOAD guy. It was on his label too I think. But right after that he released the INCREDIBLE Inbred Mountain and Kaleidoscalp, which is not commercial at all.

I only saw Buckethead live once when he was in Guns N Roses
