It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season One Discussion

Premiers following Starved on FX 10:30 pm Eastern.

I will be catching this, hopefully it is good, and hopefully F/X does not pull a Lucky with it, if it is.

Another thing to annoy the wife by adding to Tivo, she already thinks I watch way too much tv.

I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully it gets solid ratings.

That's what you need to hope for (assuming it is good), because it is nearly impossible to say that what F/X did with Lucky was unjustified.

I would like to see what Lucky would do now that F/X has a very established audiance and stable of shows. IIRC, Lucky was one of their first shows and suffered from that, I bet it would do great now.

I don't. It wasn't a traditional comedy. Shows like Arrested Development, Scrubs, and The Office aren't hits either. AD and The Office barely have survived.

Keep in mind that F/X did have 2 hits prior to the premiere of Lucky: The Shield and Son of the Beach, so it is not like F/X was a rookie when it came to original programming.

I thought it was pretty damn funny. The cast had pretty good chemistry and they just jumped right into tonight's topic headfirst.

I liked the preceding show, Starved, but thought this was much better.

I liked it, too. The cast had good chemistry, and while it was a bit predictable at timers, it definitely shows promise as something that coluld be pretty fresh.

Why, though, did Starved run five minutes long despite having started on time? My Tivo cut off right as
Spoiler:
he realized he was in bed with a guy
. Luckily, I was able to record the later showing, so I'll be able to catch the last few minutes.

I liked it

An episode like that is something the networks would never touch and they pulled it off nicely.

Damn - that was hilarious. So many great lines.

"I hate listening to people's dreams. It's like flipping through a stack of photographs. If I'm not in any of them or nobody's having sex, I just don't care."

Thank goodness I started watching the recording at 11:15. The huge overrun of Starved cut off the end - I was able to record and pad the encore presentation.

Better than Starved. There were a few funny moments (the bartender getting familiar with his new fan club). These guys are idiots though. Was kind of frustrating to watch the first half.

FX does that all the time. It's incredibly stupid. Sure, if you have a hit show, you can be an asshole and abuse your viewers with crazy timeshifts, but if you're trying to establish a brand new show, pissing off the DVR viewers seems like a terrible way to build an audience.

I liked it - well, what I saw of it. My DVR cut off, as well. Guess I'll have to pad future recordings by a few (or 6) minutes.

Now I just need to catch a re-airing to see how the damn thing ended.

I thought it was pretty funny.

I was surprised they didn't tie in an earlier joke. When they later realized that Terrell was gay, someone should have pointed out what he really meant when he said he took the Mexican dude back into the alley and "tore his ass up." The joke was funny in retrospect after I remembered it but they never really hit the punch-line home.

This one looks like it's going to be great.
