24: Season 5 Info **Casting Spoilers**

You were warned.

A tidbit from Cinescape:

Fox has cast three new faces for the fifth season of 24. Jean Smart, Brady Corbet and Connie Britton will join Keifer Sutherland (Jack Bauer) as he works to "save the world from yet another dastardly conspiracy."

Though there is no confirmation yet Sutherland will be back for "Day 5" of the series, most are expecting he will. But it has been announced that Gregory Itzen (President Logan) and Carlos Bernard will return this fall.

Jean Smart will play the first lady, while Connie Britton will be Bauer's new love interest. Britton's son will be played by Brady Corbet.

The fifth season will kick-off with a four-hour, two-evening event in January.
Connie Britton (Spin City):

Brady Corbet (Thirteen):

and of course, Jean Smart:

Interesting seeing Bernard back. I really like Tony's character, but they wrapped his character up quite well at the end of season 4. I'd hate to see him used as a crutch. They developed Curtis well, give him some more screen time. Maybe Tony will only be in it breifly.

That is what I thought, until I checked IMDB. Apparently she never went anywhere. Her post Spin City tv series work includes: The Fugitive, The Fighting Fitzgeralds, Lost at Home, and the West Wing, and been in no less than 10 films.

It says that in the article.

I love Connie Britton. Her role on Spin City was great. One would think that if they case Jack's love interest and her son, Jack would be back as well.

Chloe is most certainly going to be back. I remember reading during last season's episode that hey signed her through this season.

Edgar better be back!

Funny that Carlos is coming back, but no word about Reiko... after the end of Season Four, they're going to have a tough time saying why Tony's around but Michelle isn't...unless she gets re-assigned or something...

No Behrooz? Guess he's still on the looze...

I read an article (tvguide?) saying that they filmed a scene that clears up that plotline but it was cut for time. Maybe it will be on the dvd set.

Spoiler:
Suposedly the plot line for the upcoming season (at least for the first few episodes of the season) revolves around the fact that the Chinese are now aware that Jack is alive and they try to make him appear by killing off people close to him.

Actually it's not far-fetched at all. The premise of 24 makes it really easy to just have someone out of town for the day. As long as she doesn't have some cheap offscreen death, I can live with her not returning for Day 5.

Spoiler:
I hope that's not the case, I would hate to see good characters return just to be killed off. Unless there's a mountain lion involved.

Speaking of being out of town, you'd think that after 4 failed terrorist plots, the 5th team would investigate when Jack Bauer is in Aruba or somewhere far far away and then attack.

Spoiler:
Fortunately Jack's now presumed dead, so he's got the upper hand on the terrorists this time around.

I think the character of Kim is pretty Sucky. Much suckier than Curtis.

So Tony will be back but not Michelle?

Connie Britton will be Bauer's new love interest.
That can't end well for her.

Tony.

If Jack were in Aruba, he'd certainly have found that girl by now.

Jack: Tell me where Natalee is!
Dutch kid: I don't know. Honest.
Jack: We don't have time for this. I'm going to cut your balls off now.
Dutch kid: Okay, I killed her. Sorry about that.
Girl's mom: No, she's definitely still alive.
Jack: I'm so sorry. There just wasn't time.

Oh, c'mon! What better reason to bring back Kim Bauer?

From Ask Ausiello at TV Guide:

Spoiler:

All [that 24 Executive Producer] Evan Katz would tell me at Fox's press tour party Friday night is that dead-man-walking Jack Bauer will be brought back into the fold "in a really explosive and traumatic two-hour way." (The key word being "traumatic.")

Katz added that the whole Chinese Embassy plot will be partially wrapped up in the season opener. "Pieces of it will be resolved, but pieces of it we will reserve." As far as who will be back, Katz wouldn't confirm any names other than previously announced series regulars Kiefer Sutherland, Carlos Bernard and Mary Lynn Rajskub. He did, however, promise that a "big surprise" was in store for Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth) — and I'm betting it's not the good kind.

Huge casting spoiler here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050826/...BhBHNlYwM5NjQ-

Spoiler:
OS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) -
Sean Astin, who starred in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, is joining the cast of Fox's real-time drama "24," which will again kick off its season with four episodes screening on two consecutive nights.

Astin will portray a new addition to the Counter Terrorist Unit in the drama series, which stars
Kiefer Sutherland as agent Jack Bauer.

The fifth season will premiere with two episodes from 8-10 p.m. January 8, followed by two from 8-10 p.m. January 9 (the second episode January 9 will be the show's 100th). On January 16, the fifth hour of "24" will air in the show's regular 9 p.m. Monday slot.

The scheduling strategy is designed to let viewers watch an entire season on a weekly basis without repeats or pre-emptions.

Season 5 will pick up 18 months after the fourth season ended, with Jack presumably dead but actually living a new life with Diane (
Connie Britton) and her son Derek (Brady Corbet).
Jean Smart ("Frasier") is set to play first lady Martha Logan.
