[rumor] new RESIDENT EVIL Trilogy in the works?

New 'Resident Evil' Trilogy Kicks off on an Island!?

It was reported way back in early June (story here) that Sony Screen Gems is working on not one, but two new Resident Evil films, which would kick off in Japan- well things change! Inside you can read an unconfirmed scoop we received regarding the video game adaptations and how Sony is now planning a whole new trilogy based on them!! Remember, this is just rumor until confirmed...

I received the following scoop from The Rotten Cadaver:
"Hey guys, I've got a really exciting scoop regarding Screen Gem's three upcoming Resident Evil sequels. That's right -- I said THREE...

An assistant script reader over at Sony contacted me this morning regarding War of the World's scripter Josh Friedman's contribution to the franchise. Apparently, he just wrapped up writing a new trilogy to the series that will lead the films into new territory (ala what Capcom did with RE4).

Although my insider was only able to read the opening seventy-six pages of the first script, he tells me that there seems to be a lot in common with these sequels direction as to that of the newest game title. Unlike what was reported a little over a month ago (a Japanesse setting), the first of the trilogy takes place on an island of the coast of Europe where strange things start brewing after a luxury cruise ship vanishes near the land mass. Series regular Clair Redfield comes into the picture when she recieves an unsigned note of which appears to have been written by her missing brother Chris. News of the doomed ship adds fuel to her search, leading her to the above mentioned location. He also notes that only a few "breathing corpses" were mentioned in the screenplay, and that the usual RE beasts (such as lickers, ceribus', hunters, and tyrants? and the Alice character were nowhere to be found.

Remember that this is just a rumor until confirmed. Hopefuly we'll have further confirmation and more news in the coming week, so watch this spot.

Resident Evil 3 was originally announced to be called Afterlife with principle photography planned for November or December.

This franchise has already crashed on its take off. I'm suprised they keep making these.

Maybe they'll let George Romero do it since Land of the Dead was a mild success.

Wait, so we'll have a Resident Evil Quintilogy boxed set? While the second was much better than the first, do these really have enough material to go three more movies?

Well, I'll probably rent them at some point.

I would like to see a Resident Evil movie that maintains the atmosphere of the games.

They weren't awful. Good popcorn flicks for the summer. I'd see them if there is more Mila Jovavich.

I happen to love the vid games, and I love zombie movies. So I would love to see this happen, but I personally hope it's an entirely new crew of filmmakers, different characters (ie no Alice) and hopefully, more of an emphasis on the horror vibe and not the all out metal horror thing they had going in the movies.

But who am I fooling...eihter or, I'd take more RE films. I can't find it in my heart to hate the films, even though I can't call them good. Zombie movies have that affect on me.

Sounds like they're continuing the storyline of the games. RE: Apocalypse was a rough translation of the third game, Nemesis. These movies seem directly based on Code: Veronica's storyline, with a little bit of the RE: Raiden (Gameboy game) story about the cruise ship.

I think I'm the rare person that thought Apolocalypse was better than the original RE film.

I'm a BIG RE fan, and Zombie film fan in general, but I loathe the RE films. The writer should be strung up and shot. Same idiot that did the A vs. P film too, right?
Hopefully if this new trilogy gets off the floor it has a lot of new blood working on it.

Low blow!

But, seriously, is anything being planned with the RE film franchise or was Apocalypse the last we'll ever see of it?
