American Gothic on DVD - October 25th, 2005

American Gothic - Cult Favorite Coming This October
Posted by Gord Lacey
7/19/2005

Reader Christine Berni, the woman responsible for the American Gothic DVD petition, wrote in with some good news from Comicon. Shaun Cassidy (creator/executive producer) told attendees to his panel that the show would be out in October. We placed some calls to our retail friends and kept hearing a single date, October 25. Keep in mind that date hasn't come from Universal, and isn't set in stone, but it sounds as though that's the date they have in mind.

I can't wait. Already counting the days.

Was this the show where the previews had someone saying "Someone's at the door" about a million times?

I was so happy to get this email from tvshowsondvd today. I loved this show, and feared it would never hit dvd. This is some of the best tv on dvd news ever in my book.

I thought we were talking about that silly horror film with Rod Steiger and Yvonne DeCarlo!

ive seen the show a few times, does it have any kind of wrap up at the end of the season? or is it really left hanging?

The whole show doesn't smack you on the head with answers anyway, so the ending works okay.

But if it still doesn't satisfy you, I'm sure things will be wrapped up suitably in "American Gothic: Revisited":

Or you could just wait for the film version:

About damn time! However unlikely, I'm hoping for plenty of extras.

Extras would be great, but let's be honest - the majority of AG fans will be snapping this up even if it's a bare bones.

I'm just happy that I can go from watching 3rd generation used video tapes to DVD's.

I'm hoping for a featurette titled "From Lucas Buck to Mike Brady... is there anyone Gary Cole can't play?"

Wholly Crap! First the resurrection of Family Guy and now it appears the resurrection of American Gothic!!! I'm as giddy as a school boy!

I've never seen 'American Gothic'. How dark is it? Is if full scale horror, or more of an X-Files type of thing?

Was this the show where the promos showed words written on the wall in blood?

Yep, that's the one. I don't think we ever found out what Lucas was, but the general concensus was that he was not human. When asked why the show was cancelled, an exec said something like "What do you expect, the lead character is the Devil." He held the entire town under his thumb. Do what he asks, and everything's fine. Go against him and you're in deep shit.

I'd say it's closer to horror, although not full scale. A lot of psychological stuff, since that's how Lucas worked best - by messing with your mind.

Missed this thread yesterday... Wow, utterly amazing news. My favorite show of all time. I simply can't wait. It's going to be amazing to rewatch this show after a decade, and then watch it again. And again and again... I never in a million years thought this show would make it out on DVD.
