Anyone know anything about the new SE release of Mark of Zorro, 1940? I remember hearing the transfer was not that great on the Studio Classics release so I skipped it. I wonder whats so Special about it since it was already released as a Studio Classics?

I really have a hard time believing it's anything other than the FSC

This is just Fox's lame attempt to capitalize on the new Zorro movie coming out.

I have this disc. It's not at the level of Warner's better efforts, but it certainly looks fine especially considering you can buy it for $9.99 at many stores.

It looks like someone at Fox got their Crayola's on this title! According to various etailers, the upcoming SE of The Mark of Zorro (1940) will feature a colorized version of the film. (It wasn't clear if, like on their Shirley Temple titles, they will include the original B&W version on the disc as well.)

If this isn't bad enough, the studio may also be discontinuing the Fox Studio Classics version of this classic.

Also announced for the same day is a re-release of 1940's Mark of Zorro. This two-sided disc will included the previously released "Studio Classics" edition with the same extras on one side, and a newly colorized version on the flip side. retail is also $19.98.

think i'll save the 5 bucks and let them keep their color version

yes they are. same cover, and same spine number 12

what a strange way to tie it in with the new movie. I assumed it would have a big flaming Z on the cover...

this is the slipcover....but i have had this in hand...the cover is diffrent...and no spine number. no mention of the classics banner. the old copy went OOP a few weeks back. if you want the old cover get it now..

Can anyone tell me about this Fox Searchlight Collection that I've seen at wal-mart? Are these just dumbed-down editions of previous releases? if the fox studios classics version of mark of zorro is going OOP, does that also mean the same for the studio classics version of the day the earth stood still, which I also saw at wal-mart as part of the searchlight collection? are the studio classics being discontinued?

no the franchise is not being discontinued...the zorro disc is just a way to cash in on the new movie. I have not seen the day the earth stood still disc, but i was under the impression that it had a slipcover with a blue banner...i did not know the actual cover had changed. I have not seen that listed OOP anywhere as of yet.

The review doesn't mention if the b&w is the same as the previous dvd.
And it doesn't say how the colorized version looks.
Like is it just brown & greens colors that are used as is usally the case in these colorized movies.

not sure...but i assume the B&W side is just the same since it carried over the same trailers and what not...wonder if they changed the menu.

I saw a screencap of the colorized version somewhere recently and was surprised that it looked pretty good. Much better than previous colorized movies i've seen. I already own the FSC disc but I'm interested in this one just for curiousities sake.

Can someone post a shot of the colorized version? pleaseeee.
