OMG! Where are the rest of the numbers for Saturday and Sunday!

Huge take for Charlie. I thought it might do well, but not that good. I never really understood the big deal about the original. Too much of a stoner movie for me.

yeah, i'm shocked Charlie made that much, Burton & Depp aren't known for that kind of pull

frankly, Depp's Wonka looks like a such a creep that I'd be surprised if children like the film that much

For Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I was surprised to find Friday's 3 p.m. showing sold out at my local Regal theater, and the theater was packed for the later showings as well. Both adults and children will like this film, so it's going to be a big hit, and should have more legs than the usual movie that opens big but performs poorly afterwards (Fantastic Four).

The IMAX showing I went to of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at ten o'clock this morning was 3/4th full. However, when I was exiting, the place looked like a ghost town other than the line of people waiting to see the film in IMAX. [At that theater, Charlie... is showing on three screens in 35mm and one IMAX screen.]

I'm more shocked over the pull of Wedding Crashers. I knew Charlie would hit a home run, but the film that was simply made to show off Vaughn's great comedic presence and nothing else of actual quality looks like it'll pull in $25-30 million at the box office this weekend. While I thought the film was pretty much a wreck for other than Vince Vaughn, it's nice to show the movie studios that an R rated comedy can still find it's audience and do well at it.

Wow. Fantastic Four dropped hard. Thank God for that one. Now if we can get that hack Tim Story out of Hollywood, I might have more faith that there is a God.

Next weekend will be interesting. It's going to be whatever word of mouth Charlie and Wedding Crashers have versus the duo of The Island (which has had pretty good word of mouth except from Shelton and the schmucks who hate everything at Variety) and The Bad News Bears.

Fantastic four has been one of the best movies of the summer, i hope it does well enough for sequels

F4 seems to be following X-mens box office take in, numbers have been very close every day so far

That's too bad about Fantastic Four's drop as it was pleasantly good. But considering the big releases like Charlie and in following weeks, it wasn't too surprising. Still, here's hoping what seems to be a more positive word of mouth among regular viewers over critics keeps it going.

Charlie's gonna have a huge weekend. It deserves it too,

That's a huge opening for Charlie, good to see! F4 is dropping off the radar pretty fast. It'll limp over the $100m mark and will probably be closer to Daredevil numbers then X-Men's.

Ahh man, I really cant wait to see Charlie and the chocolate factory. As for the other movie's I've had no interest.

It's a shame DARK WATER didn't beat the drums louder. I really enjoyed that film.

Just me? There were some others in the thread, my man, who didn't like the film as well. Dreamworks ain't helping the film much lately either.

And BEARS? Well... I'll wait to see how warm the water is before I say anything.

With its massive sized opening, and its 83 million gross as of friday, I think F4 will pass 100 million and see itself head towards something more along the lines of 120-130 million, more inline with the Hulk really or even a tad more.

I'm not surprised to see Charlie do that well. It appeals to everyone. Adults/teens who loved the original and kids who get their first chance to see Willy Wonka. I haven't seen it yet but I can't wait to, hopefully tomorrow.

Glad to see Charlie doing well. I saw it tonight and I loved it. Good to see Batman's still hanging in there too.

I was referring to the DVD Talk thread on the film (where Weinberg, Rypro, myself, and others dug the flick) and not on Rotten Tomatoes.

With all the ad tie-ins in the movie and print advertizing the movie should make a huge profit even if it just makes $100 million.
