George Harrison's 1971 Concert For Bangladesh 10.25.05

From Davis dvd

George Harrison

Reports are coming in that George Harrison's 1971 Concert For Bangladesh is due to be reissued on both remastered CD and DVD on October 25th. Full details are still unclear, but word is that the releases will contain rarely seen and heard bonus materials from both the matinee and evening performances of the show held at Madison Square Garden on August 1st, 1971. Reportedly, Harrison had been searching unsuccessfully for the master tapes of the concert just prior to his death. They were eventually located and the reissue may contain the previously unavailable performances from the concert. Stay tuned.

GREAT NEWS

between this and The Beatles: Let it Be Blurb 09.??.05 its a good time to be a beatles fan.

Hopefully it's a good time to be a Beatles fan and the info is true. I've been wanting to toss my VHS tape of The Concert For Bangladesh for years now, as well as my cheesy looking VHS tape of Let It Be!

George Harrison's widow has overseen the remastering of the film and music of his 1971 Concert For Bangladesh into a high-definition DVD, a vast project the former Beatle had to abandon when he became ill. Olivia Harrison said: "It's really stunning. It's been blown up from the original 16 mm to 70 mm. George wanted to get a full soundtrack. Now, you'll be watching a really beautiful film." The 99-minute film of the charity concert has been restored and remixed, along with 72 minutes of extra footage, for release on HD-DVD in October. There is previously unseen film of Harrison and Bob Dylan rehearsing "If Not For You," with Ringo Starr on drums and then tambourine. Intriguingly, Dylan decided not to perform his song at the ensuing afternoon and evening concerts at Madison Square Gardens, New York, on Aug 1, 1971. Harrison, Eric Clapton and Leon Russell are also seen doing a sound check in the arena, playing "Come On In My Kitchen." In addition, there is film, seen for the first time, of Dylan playing "Love Minus Zero/No Limit" at the afternoon show. Jonathan Clyde, who produced the new project, said the sound had been recorded on 16 tracks by Phil Spector, who was recruited by Harrison after they made his All Things Must Pass recording. He said: "They were trying to replicate the sound of the album."

from a post at HTF

read about this on the musictap.net. Heres what they say:
--------------------------------------------------------
The upcoming George Harrison Concert for Bangla Desh CD set is being reissued and will be joined by the DVD of the film. Both sets will release on October 25. The DVD will be remixed in 5.1, contain the original 99-minute film (which has been restored), with an additional 72-minute of extras. The extras include a 45-minute documentary that feature interviews, sound checks, and rehearsals as well as Bob Dylan footage not included in the original cut of the film. The DVD will release over 2 discs and will also be available as a Special Deluxe Edition that will include a 64-page book and other collectibles. The CD set (2CD) is remixed and will contain an extra track, the previously mentioned Bob Dylan song, "Love Minus Zero/No Limit." All proceeds from the sales of these two remarkable sets will be used to assist UNICEF as Harrison had previously designated.
