ClickStar - download movies same-day released in theaters, pre-DVD

It’s a new way of experiencing home entertainment—movie lovers watching brand-new Holloywood blockbusters at home over the Internet on the same day they are released in theaters. That’s the vision driving Intel’s latest venture.

Intel is teaming up with Revelations Entertainment, a partnership between actor Morgan Freeman and producer Lori McCreary, to form ClickStar Inc. ClickStar’s strategy is to create an online service through which people can access, pay for, and download first-run, pre-DVD-release films on Intel-based digital home devices.

I wonder how much a download will cost. This might be preferable to sitting with the rude crowds, but I don't have my PC hooked up to my TV, so I wouldn't want to pay movie ticket prices for it.

I heard about this a few weeks ago or so when the press release was sent out. The logistics of this are tough, as spainlinx0 said. Not alot of people do have PCs hooked up to their TVs yet.

And, how long is it before someone hacks whatever copy protection is there and is able to burn these to disc?

For some reason I doubt this program will be able to offer most of the first run theatrical releases. I just can't see the studios (and I'm sure the theaters will complain) really going along with this save for some smaller sized releases.

ClickStar most likely ISN'T going to offer movies the same day they are released in theaters...what they ARE going to do is offer movies sometime between when they have played in theaters and before they hit DVD. So it's kind of a VOD version of your local "second-run" theater. Intel's article is simply wishful thinking...at best, they may get day and date on REVOLUTION studio releases (Freeman's studio)...but no other major studio is going to play along with giving them their movies on the SAME DAY they hit theaters.
