Volume IV: 'Live 8' Benefit Concerts - after the aftermath
Let's all try to keep this one free of "Who the Pink are they" type back and forth which kind of distracts from the event itself.
Someone can start a separate thread to set out the definitive list of artistes any True Music Fan should be able to cite. Good luck with that, by the way
Was the subsequent Edinburgh concert screened internationally, does anyone know?

I really like the Will Smith song "Switch"
I had asked this in the previous thread, but what was the band/song lineup for MTV's five hour coverage from last Saturday.

- 5 or 6 notes of Paul McCartney
- 15 minutes of VJ talking about how big the crowd is
- 8 or 10 words of a U2 song
- 5 minute promo for the Real World: Ames, Iowa
- One finger snap from Will Smith
- 8 minute interview with Lindsay Lohan on why she broke a fingernail
...and on and on.

ABC Prays It Won't Be Fooled Again
The Parents Television Council, a unit of Brent Bozell's conservative Media Research Center, has filed an FCC complaint against ABC, demanding that its stations be fined for broadcasting an unedited version of The Who's "Who Are You?" during its July 2 Live 8 concert special. Although the special featured highlights from the worldwide rock concert, ABC neglected to edit out the f-word from the lyrics, even though the song has aired unedited thousands of times on the radio over the years. ABC acknowledged that it had aired the verboten word, saying in a statement: "Unfortunately, one inappropriate phrase sung by one performer was initially missed and made it into the East Coast network feed. It was subsequently edited out of the West Coast feed." The PTC has been at the forefront of protests against the use of profane language on television and generated most of the FCC complaints concerning Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" at the Super Bowl halftime show and Bono's use of the f-word during the 2003 Golden Globes Awards.

First off, I don't like that "localized" idea. I'm not even sure of who all played where, but it sounds like a stupid idea regardless.
Second, I've tried to listen to some of songs on XM rebroadcasts, but they sound quite frankly like garbage. Like they were recorded by a guy in the front row with a tape recorder. The R.E.M. ones are the ones I've heard the most, are they all that bad?

Personally, I'd like to see EP CDs from the various artists of their performances. I don't know that I'd want entire concerts.

Just got this from my Madonna website. Looks like the UK is getting the whole London show
:
Several online music and video retailers are now listing a Live 8 Four Disc Box Set DVD to be released on November 7, 2005.
It's a Region 2 release (Europe) and it is offered for £29.99.
No further details are available at the moment although from the description of the event that accompanies the pre-order pages it looks likely that this specific boxset will be based on the London Hyde Park concert where Madonna performed on July 2nd.

I know it will sound like sacrilege to some but I think it'd be great if they could offer DVDs by genre rather than by location e.g. maybe you could have all the rock stuff from the worldwide concerts on one set.
Opinions may vary.

Not to mention Deep Purple(they kicked major a$$, if you saw the performance) and Motley Crue. I'm shocked the Neil Young finalle(Keep on Rockin in the Free World)isn't on here. That was beautiful especially since he had an aneurysm 3 months earlier. Nice to see Brian Wilson on here and of course Pink Floyd Rehearsals
. But no Shakira that i can tell
. Glad i taped this thing. Too bad i didn't have DVDR. Oh well just have to transfer i guess.

Only 1 (of 3) Bon Jovi?
Only 1 (of 3) Def Leppard?
Only 1 (of ?) Green Day?
No Motley Crue?
Yet the Scissor Sisters get TWO? What the fuck.
