Sweet - we don't have to wait for the World Series to be over before they start premiering a bunch of shows.

Yeah, usually the Simpsons wait until after the playoffs and WS are over. Very cool..

FOX Not Waiting to Start Season
(Monday, July 11 09:18 AM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) In a serious departure from its strategy of recent years, FOX will launch nearly all of its 2005-06 fall schedule before the major league baseball playoffs in the hopes of building audiences before the other networks charge in with their lineups.
FOX is holding only two series, returning sitcoms "That '70s Show" and "Stacked," until after the World Series ends. Most of the rest of the schedule will roll out before the Nielsen-sanctioned beginning of the '05-'06 campaign in late September.
"We have an incredible slate this season, and we're getting out of the gate early with our new series and returning favorites in order to create maximum buzz among viewers," says Peter Ligouri, president of FOX Entertainment.
That idea represents a marked shift from the past two seasons, when the network has waited until after the schedule-disrupting baseball playoffs, which take up most of October, to unveil much of its schedule. The results of that strategy weren't too favorable, particularly last season, when FOX filled much of its fall with short-run unscripted series that brought weak ratings and left the network in fourth place at the start of 2005.
FOX's fall will kick off Monday, Aug. 29 with the two-hour premiere of "Prison Break," which will have three weeks on its own on Mondays before "Arrested Development" and the new comedy "Kitchen Confidential" join it there on Sept. 19, which will likely be the first official, Nielsen-counted day of the season. The rest of the lineup will roll out gradually over the month of September.

I wonder if ABC will wait until a week or two after the DVD release of Desperate Housewives to launch its new season?

Huh. I'm a fan of Anthony Bourdain and this is the first I've heard of Kitchen Confidential being a show.

The only bad thing is baseball kills their momentum no matter what they do. You'll get hooked on a show only to have it disappear for a month. Normally that's no big deal (look at summer, etc.), but when all the competitors' shows are all debuting and eturning during that period it's easy for people to forget about a show before its hook is firmly set.
That said, there's a surprising number of shows I want to check out/return to just from this early lineup.

I think is better to have Fox start the shows earlier than to wait until November.

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Yes, the peacock network is currently in fourth place. Yes, they realize that this is problem. They also know that they aren't going to fix everything overnight, but they are hoping that the six new series they have on deck for this fall will at least slow the bleeding.
To this end, in a fit of organization that Martha Stewart would surely approve of, NBC will cram all but two of its premieres into the week of Sept. 19. Reality show "The Biggest Loser" will weigh in with a 90-minute premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 13, and a special hourlong "Joey" premiere will push "Will & Grace's" eighth and final season premiere to Thursday, Sept. 29.
On Friday nights, NBC also decided to move its newsmagazine "Dateline" back to its original home at 8 p.m. ET, with Amy Grant's feel-good "Three Wishes" moving to 9 p.m. in order to provide a more "viable, compatible lead-in" to the new drama "Inconceivable."
Already looking ahead to November sweeps, four specials have also already been inked onto the schedule: "Saturday Night Live: The '80s" (Sunday, Nov. 13), "The Poseidon Adventure (Sunday, Nov. 20), a Faith Hill music special (Wednesday, Nov. 23) and the two-night disaster event "10.5: Apocalypse" (Sunday, Nov. 27 and Monday, Nov. 28).
The full premiere schedule for NBC is as follows (all times Eastern):
Tuesday, Sept. 13
8 p.m. "The Biggest Loser"
Monday, Sept. 19
8 p.m. "Surface"
9 p.m. "Las Vegas"
10 p.m. "Medium"
Tuesday, Sept. 20
9 p.m. "My Name Is Earl"
9:30 p.m. "The Office"
10 p.m. "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"
Wednesday, Sept. 21
8 p.m. "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart"
9 p.m. "E-Ring"
10 p.m. "Law & Order"
Thursday, Sept. 22
8 p.m. "Joey" (special one-hour premiere)
9 p.m. "The Apprentice"
10 p.m. "ER"
Friday, Sept. 23
8 p.m. "Dateline NBC"
9 p.m. "Three Wishes"
10 p.m. "Inconceivable"
Saturday, Sept. 24
8 p.m. Saturday Night Movie
Sunday, Sept. 25
7 p.m. "Dateline NBC"
8 p.m. "The West Wing'
9 p.m. "Law & Order: Criminal Intent"
10 p.m. "Crossing Jordan"
