Penn & Teller Bull****: Ghostbusters 7/11/05

Showtime 9:00pm CDT (repeated one hour later)

It's scary to know in today's Age of Enlightenment, the world's fascination with the "paranormal" is at an all-time high. And where there are gullible believers, you can bet there are hordes of "experts" lurking, ready to sell something to them. We will delve into the realm of the "spirits" and take a look at the revived interest [in] ghost hunting. We'll spend time with so-called parapsychologists as they track ghosts with their new-fangled, pseudoscientific equipment. Will they find something? Yeah, right! We'll show you how some of them bullshit themselves as much as their clients as they try to get to the bottom of nonexistent mysteries.
I think this will be an enjoyable but rather humdrum episode. Easy target.

Still no rebroadcasts of Holier Than Thou in sight. Also still missing from VOD. Still no explanation of why Signs From Heaven was MIA last week but it's still available on VOD.

Next week the one I've most been waiting for: Endangered Species.

I just hope they have an equivalent of Doctor Venkman.

Exactly what I said.

I did like the "OAR" slo-mo "effects" for the three walking ghostbusters.

I wanted to see some dogs and cats living together.

It may be a no-brainer to regulars of the show, but there are plenty of people out there who believe in ghosts. In fact, there's a thread about them in Other that was started just yesterday, where everybody is discussing them as if the whole thing were fact.

P&T are slipping. No mention of Tobin's Spirit Guide or the Philadelphia mass turbulence of 1947.

Agreed. And I actually disagreed with the scientist at the end of the ep that said something like "paranormal investigators are two steps away. First they have to prove that anamalous things are happening, then they have to prove that these things are spirits". Anamalous things are happening. Things happen that people can't explain. They have happened to me and I am about as far from a "believer" in ghosts as you can get. I just don't attribute these things to ghosts or spirits. But all in all, I thought it was a lot of making fun of people and a lot of "ghosts can't be proven by science". I didn't feel like they really went as in depth to debunk things as they normally do. Definitely bored during this ep.

(edit) Also wanted to say that I was really surprised when that guy's camera started going all wonky in that attic, and Penn shrugged it off as "sometimes equipment doesn't work right". WTF? I have had a few digital cameras, and NONE of them have EVER done that anywhere. It was just weird.
