How many other ppl think LOTR was awful.

This thread is just to prove a point.

Enough of these clowns starting threads on films that have been out for a long time.

If you have a complaint on a movie, do a fu**ing search for a change.

The only offender I can see is Eternal Sunshine on pg2. Since both American Psycho and Jaws have had recent DVD re-releases it doesn't bother me. And even if it did...who cares.

To paraphrase a recent movie release: "Flame on!"

I thought it wasn't allowed to post anything negative about Peter Jackson or LOTR.

Strong agreement. It's just a thread with someone voicing their opinions, which they're perfectly free to do. Whining about a thread by making a new one is more annoying, at least to me.

To be fair, American Psycho came out over 5 years, the original thread discussing it seems to have fallen off the forum. I did a search and there are no older threads for it.

keep in mind, the search feature on DVD talk is really subpar. i wouldn't call it instant gratification, i would just call it simply faster, to post a thread about a subject that may or may not have a thread going.

i have no problem with people posting a new thread, regardless of whether it's a duplicate or not, because i really can't blame anyone for foregoing the searching of hundreds of threads to make sure they aren't rehashing something.

seriously, when you have discussions with friends, do you tell them 'hey, we discussed that last year' or do you actually just discuss things again?

i could go on, but the 'do a search' posts always get on my nerves.

I didn't think it was all that, but then again, I'm not a fan of the genre (didn't care for the books either).

Go over to the imdb board of RoTK, its a civil war there.
I think the best of the LOTR trilogy was FoTR, you had a bond between them and it was about the characters while TT and RoTK fell flat, just too much yawning battles and a huge mass of lysterine flying over all the castles... meh. Kind of sad the best is the 1st. Quite different from the Star Wars trilogy.

I think the Two Towers is the best of the three. I don't think the characters are the best part of the film but the conflicts and ideals expressed in the film.

care to explain that metaphor? lol.

i agree tho that fotr might be the best. but fotr i would say is where the crisis of man really is at its peak. there's no army to help, it's just 11 people at the very most (11, right?). and it ends with the ring only being protected by two hobbits. that's pretty dire.

if you think that empire strikes back is the best SW, then i'd say they parallel in that fashion, as that movie ends on the same note.

Nine, not eleven. Someone didn't attempt to remember much!

FWIW, I agree that FOTR was the best of the three, as the conflict was on a smaller scale and there weren't any major battles to be a big spectacle. Of course I think it works well if you look at them as one big story; it starts about a threat to a small group, and expands into an all out war. But still, I love movies that don't exactly end with the good guys winning, but leave a glimmer of hope. Probably why my favorite SW movies are ESB and ROTS.

I think when he said "eleven at the very most", he was probably referring to the additional people, outside the Fellowship of nine, who assisted them directly throughout the three movies. If that's the theory, I would have said it be much more than eleven, though.

As far as the Listerine comment, all I can surmise is something about the characters' probable bad breath.

They are entertaining and well-made movies - but they aren't the "classics of modern cinema" that frequent posters on this forum (and others) would lead you to believe they are, had you not seen the movies.
