It should be pointed out that while this DVD will use the same red/cyan anaglyph technology the film did in theatres, a far superior, full color 3-D version will be made available through Sensio for their 3-D processor a bit later on. (The firm is even mentioned in the closing credits.)

The new SPY KIDS 3-D DVD from Sensio is incredible, so far superior to the anaglyph version it is amazing. The movie looks far, far better than it did in theatres or on the standard DVD. Full color 3-D with much more depth than the previous version. And yes, this is a legit release fully authorized by the studio, though you must have the Sensio equipment to view it. It's better than, but similar to, the field sequential format, but much more expensive.

SHARK BOY AND LAVA GIRL screams out to be seen in full color 3-D, not the grungy anaglyph format. Anaglyph presentation really washes out the film's photography. Hopefully they'll improve it a bit in the DVD transfer as the theatrical version was so dark in the left eye it was a pain.

I think this will be the last time Rodriguez or anyone tries anaglyph; now that CHICKEN LITTLE is coming out in polarized (clear glasses) digital 3-D this November I doubt anyone (even kids) will accept it again. I really don't know what they were thinking, even the fifty one 1950's 3-D films were polarized! Anaglyph is good for comics or print media, maybe net pics, but not for movies.

In any case, real full color 3-D versions of both of Rodriguez's stereoscopic efforts exist and are a major improvement over the general release versions.

It would be almost 4 months; not that unusual if 9/28 is the date.

I read the film looked terribly dark in theaters that you could barely tell it was in 3D and get the full impact of the effects. Will the dvd be better or about the same?

Field sequential 3D may be more effective than anaglyph, but it doesn't work on a progressive scan HDTV. The reason anaglyph is so prominent on home video is that it works with any TV.

Will Sensio equipment work on a progressive display?

Field sequential DOES work on an HDTV....either tube or RPTV, but you do have to turn off the progressive scan feature, which on my player is simple to do. I don't have to change any setting on my TV at all.

Sensio is made specifically for HDTVs, so the answer is yes.

Even the lowly anaglyph general release version will likely be improved on DVD where you can control the color and brightness to get optimal results. In any case, it won't compare to the eventual Sensio version.

Not all HDTV's allow you to turn off progressive scan. All fixed-pixel digital displays such as LCD, DLP, and plasma are always progressive scan all the time. Even many CRT sets lock into progressive with no option to turn it off.

Yeah, but I don't feel like spending nearly $3,000 just to watch Sharkboy and Lava Girl in 3-D.

That's so true.....but there is a lot more out there.

As for the field sequential/progressive scan issue...I was simply responding to the incorrect statement that it can't work...as in many cases it does. I guess you just have to pick the right HDTV, or simply connect to an older set.

The best place for field sequential is a PC really...the quality is amazing and there is no flicker whatsoever.

Sensio is 100% HDTV compatible however, and with a couple of relatively simply tweaks so could regular F/S. Just wait a few years....
